What we're saying is Law was always covering the other team's top WR. Now it will be Barrett's job. My question is can he at least be reliable to limit WR's making big plays.
He said Barrett was the best Cornerback that he went up against, and that includes Chris McAlister... Where's the avatar Penny!?
what happened to his tackling anyway? I seem to remember a debate whether he could play safety 2 years ago because he was our best tackling DB then. Very good against the run.
First off...why is everyone talking about barrett? he doesn't have anything to do with this thread. Goodwin may not have been a starter, but at this point our OL is looking so thin that pretty much having anyone is positive. We do not even have 5 guys to start on the OL at this point, and on top of that there is pretty much no depth. Losing anyone on the OL is horrible for this team.
People must be watching different games... David Barret is a very good number two cornerback. People are talking about how he gets burnt all the time and i just dont see it. I guess people dont like him because he probally wont be a pro bowler.
i agree man...people don't like him because he doesn't get any picks. he's never has been that kinda corner, but he tackles...he's a solid number two guy.
actually he gets picks i think he got 5 last year. The people who dont like him say it was just a terrible throw by the quarterback or it was thrown right to him.
I don't have a problem with Barrett, I think he's okay...But very good #2 CB is stretching it...Very good #2 Corners are Darrent Williams, Brian Kelly, Nathan Vasher, Chris Gamble, Fred Smoot, Terrence McGee...And in the VERY RARE occurence you have a great #2 Corner, like Samari Rolle. Anyway, now you surely wouldn't include David Barrett in that list. He's okay, not very good, not very bad, just alright. which is fine with me.
Barrett is stocky with long arms. Yet he doesn't press. It doesn't make any sense. If someone would teach Barrett how to press, he'd be phenominal. Hopefully Mangini will, because corners in this zone system are meant to disrupt route timing and allow for the pass rush to work.
Barrett is a solid enough #2 CB, you can't have all-pros at every position. In fact he's the perfect #2 guy, doesn't generate too much attention but generally holds his own - he does need a #1 type CB on the other side. Hopefully Justin Miller is given the chance to become that #1 CB. The Jets should be drafting here for depth purposes - the starters are already here and there are other positions with greater needs IMHO. Speaking of Barrett, remember that strip and fumble recovery against JAX? The best play by a Jet defender all year....
My argument was never saying he wasn't solid, I think he is, he's alright. My thing was it's not right to label him a Very Good #2 CB, not just calling out 10nyjets87, but just in general. I don't think he deserves the scrutiny from most of the board after a bad game he gets, they make it sound like he's Aaron Beasley after a bad game, but pretty much the whole board goes overboard after a loss so what else is knew?
I got ya Ecko, I know what you're saying, I just wanted to stress basically to the board that he's a pretty decent corner - just not that flashy. He gets the job done. Aaron Beasley - another Terry Bradway signing....
