Did you notice that you never see Olsen and Beaker in the same place at the same time? Methinks that it's something more than mere coincidence...

Discovered by the Germans in 1904, they named it San Diego, which of course in German means a whale's vagina.

I totally agree. While I wouldn't be broken down with a skill player chosen in the first, a CB or TE at this point I think would ruin my Saturday, and probably the next month or so on this board for me. We really need to go heavy on the front 7 this season, because that's what makes this kind of a defense work, and we'll need it against the running games we'll be facing this season and probably for years to come.

Rhodes and Thomas surprised me nicely with QB pursuit last season, but we need a corps that will break the rhythm of an elite team. I liked the acquisition of Bowens, but the guy was depth for the Phins, Jason Taylor or no Jason Taylor. Overkilling the most important squads on your team is not a bad thing.

Same with the O-line. While I loved what we saw most of the season with Mangold and thought Brick made progress, we need youth and depth on the line to make this O work because we saw how much Schott likes to rely on the run to set up his gameplans in the end of the first/beginning of the second quarters in '06. I'm sure he'll change things up, but the basic philosophy will remain the same. Thomas Jones was a nice pickup but he's not getting anywhere near 1200 yards if they don't do something to deepen the personnel in front of him.

I think the FO will do just fine in the draft. They did what made sense early in the draft last year instead of doing what pleased the crowd or what would make the best headline. They stayed with the gameplan. They knew what was important early. I think they will do that again, and again make the talking heads look like fools.

Today I saw Mel Kiper talking about the draft standing on a football field holding a football in a 3 piece suit with Matrix sunglasses while it was cloudy out. What a jackass. I just can't stand that guy for some reason.

Listen, I'd love to have you over for the draft, but wifey is a clean freak. You come over tossing cookies in the house and you'll have to deal with her.

  10. As much as I'd much rather see us go in a different direction at # 25, specifically OL, CB, DL or OLB, and as much as I cringe at the thought of taking another first round Te, there are some notions about Olsen that one cannot deny.

    1. Say what you will about his skill-set, but on 95% of team's and experts big boards, he's top 15. We are still in a stage as a franchise, where value at early picks is still first priority. We don't have the depth, the overall talent, or flexibility to prioritize need over overwhelming draft day value in round 1. By all accounts, if Olsen fell to # 25, and we chose him...It'd be considered one of the biggest steals of the draft, just b/c of his overall value, and upside as a playmaker in the passing game.

    2. He is a better blocker than he is getting credit for. Additionally, our OC comes from a philosophy in SD, that centered around a similar style player in Antonio Gates, who may not be an elite blocker, but makes up for it w/ his unbelieveable ability to stretch a defense from an uncoventional offensive position. Now i'm not comparing Olsen's pro projections to that of Gates, I'm rather suggesting he is a similar player in terms of style.

So while I join in the chorus for Blalock, Spencer, Ross and Revis...and although the thought of Olsen tears me up inside...the pick does make some sense in terms of value, and projection in our offensive system.

The Jets needed Baker to stay at the line and support the O-Line in Pass Protection a lot last year.Give him a better Line like San Dieo has, and watch him put up above average numbers.

The only thing that really bothers me about Olsen is that he didn't produce much in College. And when he had a shitty Line and an inconsistant QB I expect him to get alot of more catches because the Qb dumps it off.

I don't want Olsen. If the Jets go with the O on Draft Day, I want either Jarret or Bowe or OL.

Revis won't be around at 25. That hasn't been an option for a long time now.

We definitely don't need a TE, but we do need a CB. Our needs on day one are DT, CB, OLB, and OG. Add a CB, DT, and OLB to the defense with help us with the pass rush, stopping the run, and pass coverage. We need a real big guy at DT, and I think Paul Soliai at 344lbs fits the role perfectly, and we can nab him in the 3rd round. Draft a OLB and OG with the 2nd round picks, take a CB in rd 1, either Houston or Ross.

I agree--You would think the jets would have learned their lesson with the trade down for Jolley--another TE who could not block and lasted one year on the team.

What happens to the AOG if we do get him and he catches 10 TD's this year? Hmm?

At this point no one has demonstrated that they are elite. I can understand why you wouldn't want Olsen but I really wouldn't mind. I think we should go corner here. We don't need a LB now. We have super depth there already. I also don't want to Jets to go after a o-line man with a early pick. We don't need the whole line to be 1st rounder. We can get some off FA or later in the draft.

The man had 6 TD's and just over 1200 yards in 3 seasons in college. 400 yards and 2 TD's a season ... what is so impressive about this?
