McElroy will not get an opportunity so the point is mute. When he gets a real opp then I will pay more attention.
No where in my post does it say "WCO" Our passing attack in one word, frustrating. Run the got damn football! Where we run the football effectively we open up PA passing attack (for a QB that can sell a fake).
You didn't. Idzik, Rex and Marty Mornhinweg did. If Jets were still running Coryell offense, then I might have some reservation toward giving this kid a chance - as you WILL need a lot of arm strength to play QB in that system. As it stands now, they are gravitating toward the WCO for the first time in ages, I see some possibility at the QB position that won't frustrate the team [or the fan base for that matter.] On top of that, RB is not the strength of the team. Neither is the OL. Running the ball is not a plausible option for this team at this stage.
To a measure Zach, I agree. But hes been on The team for a couple years. Theres a reason, hes competeing for the third string spot. The GMac should compete idiocy, is a reflection of how absurd the Sanchez hate has become here. Its all the Usual suspects. Geno, BARELY deserves a chance to compete...but GMac...cmon man.
Frustrating? Really..after one preseason game. News flash, the coryell based crap is gone. All 3 Jets QBs. Including the rookie, posted passer ratings over 90%. and only .2 kept all three from over 95. (geno was 94.8)
Compared to Sanchez who had reps since May of 2012? It doesn't compare. He only had a week to practice, and prior to that he'd been inactive for most of the season. Considering all this he did okay. He led a TD drive in that game, made a few decent passes, shown some ability to scramble and use his legs etc. I think a full year of reps and practice and I think he would be a solid starter. That SD game was important for him, he knew that would be his last legit chance to start, and then he got hurt. He hid his injury in order to play the next week against the Bills.
You see, this is the kind of stuff that derails threads smh. Why on God's green earth would neither Geno or McElroy NOT deserve to compete? That makes no sense.
I disnt suggest he SHOULD be competing, now did I? I love how people get their panties in a wad, when something retarded gets challenged. GMac, does not deserve to compete.Period. Simce you seem to be new to football, let me explain why its retarded. The team is getting ready for the regular season. There are only X amount of first team reps, ina new offense, no less. Therefore, every first team snap not going to the starter(which is Sanchez, kike ot or not) Is taking first team reps, away, feom the eventual actual first team. Got it? Right now, today...they are sacrificing offensive cohesion, for...basically...publicity purposes.
After 2 seasons of transition to pass attack. Since we dumped TJ and LT and finally Shonn Greene for immersion into full blown pass attack with character cast in the backfield. This pass attack thing you people speak of, well.. it takes a damn long time to prop up, you need a competent person behind center who makes reads, adjustments and at the very least looks off defenders. You need blue collar receivers that run clean routes, whether the ball is passed to them or not 100% of the time, you need said blue collar receiver to get separation, to catch the football when it hits their hands and finally you need that blue collar champion to get the fuck up field. Frustrating. I'm still waiting, tell me is this the year we are going to be effective passing the football? The head coach preaches Ground n' pound for the first 2 seasons, it works to our Defenses advantage (possession, keeping the D off the field), it helps the passing attack (run the ball to pass the ball, Sanchez PA, defense bites, Braylon Edwards on the #'s for 6 or keller, Kerley, Holmes over the middle for big gains), we go to two AFC Championship games and than what do we do?? we completely abandon the philosophy bc it's not the "trend" or "norm" of 21st century NFL football teams. It's baloney, bc it's the offense that just gave Baltimore a SB Championship. The pass attack, here for the New York Jets, will only work if we have a running attack. It won't be the other way around.
This "G'Mac appreciation thread" has turned into a "G'Mac put down thread". From the '11 sacks' game; to only being a field manager; to just a 3rd string backup; and my personal favorite "Shouldn't even be given an opportunity to compete." The so-called football experts and you know who you are. The one's who are in reality only Jet fans like the rest of us, continually rehash the same reasons why G'Mac should not be on the field. I am so tired of it! In all honesty, what I think this team needs right now is a field manager. Someone who will just execute... someone who will compensate for what the experts on here feel are shortcomings, and lead this team. So, give Greg McElroy a chance with the 1's, to practice... and to play in "ONE" pre-season game. He will pass or fail on his own abilities or lack thereof. I for one, believe that if given an honest chance, he will succeed. But either way it will end all of this. And just so you know... "RTR"!
Hobbes. You know you are standing on a shaky ground here. The league is literally LITTERED with coaches not giving the kid a fair shot early, only to realize his mistake. Jets had their own not too long ago - in Pennington and Cotchery. NOW we know Herm was blinded by his own loyalty to vets and whatnot, but the reality is, YOU JUST NEVER KNOW UNTIL YOU GIVE THESE KIDS A FAIR SHOT. It is not even like Nacho is setting the league on fire or something. [Well... actually, yeah. He's throwing pick 6's at an alarming rate.] Let me summarize my stance, once and for all: 1. Giving up on Sanchez now is somewhat premature; it is never too late to give up on him AFTER confirming that he indeed is a bust. 2. That said, not even giving a chance to what appears to be a legitimate QB material in the new system makes absolutely no sense either. Give the kid a chance too. Just in case; so, if Sanchez proves to be the turnover machine that we all know he is, and Geno is not ready, maybe the team can have plan C.
Taking 11 sacks is never ok in my book. Granted throwing interceptions aren't neither, but during that game - you can tell he did not have confidence in his arm to make tight throws. To be a successful QB in this league - you have to have that trait. WRs can't always be wide open completely. Honestly I hate interceptions as much as the next guy, but take a chance at least. I don't think he's got the arm to be a QB in this league, let alone win you 10 games - none of our QBs have that quality. He is what he is. A back-up QB.
It's but one example - I know a certain QB up in Foxboro. He doesn't have that rocket of an arm everybody looks for in prototypical QB prospect. And he isn't alone either.
