Tanny is great at buying low, but at the same time a quite terrible seller. He never seem to get good or great value for the players he is shopping around. Leon's 2nd round tag was a gamble that failed when Leon didn't show up for the voluntary training.
Let's get it right. Leon got it for his return skills, not as a halfback. McKnight has the potential to be amazing for us, even better than Leon. His hands are better than some of the WRs in this league and his instant rapport with Sanchez might actually get him to check down once in a while.
Rumor was the Patriots were going to make a play for him. If he was tendered a ODB, he might be a Patriot right now. We would all be saying " Leon to the Pats for a 4th rounder! What a mistake Tanny made, he should just held him for the year and see how he did." 20/20 I think Tanny put the 2nd round tender and was willing to negotiate with who ever was interested, of course no one in the AFC East.
People right away think because he broke his leg he's going to be shit. Watch him have a great year and people bitchin on why we gave him away for a 5th rounder and we still had to give them our 5th and a 7th.
How much would he contribute this year? His leg (did it heal fully?), conditioning (1 year off?), attitude (Why did the Jets screw me??), the wild card Keels (absolute dick!) To many question marks. You know Keels would tear him out of NY in a heartbeat next year. His time had come.
He's not guaranteed to be trash but he it will take time for him to get back to his full strength, like most of the offseason and a good chunk of the regular season. He won't be as dynamic of a halfback for a while. So the Jets would have had to redevelop him and then watch him walk away at the end of the season for nothing. Instead, Tannenbaum went out and got his replacement in Joe McKnight who can go right now, and we got a player in Conner who is going to be a beast of a player at special teams next season and a great asset to our running game once T-Rich retires/isn't resigned.
Why is Casey Hampton so happy that Mark Sanchez threw a touchdown to a mannequin against a team that only put out one defender in your avatar?
also, if anyone notice, if leon ever caught the ball standing still, he got tackeled immediatly, he doesnt have that make the first guy miss move, nor a quick 1st step, he needs to catch the ball on the run, mcknight can do the mention above. mcknight is gonna be a great change of pace back, and a great 3rd down back. he is also a special teams demon!
I fully expected Leon not to be here this season and sure a 5th for him sucks. But hes 29 and he just got off a potential career ending injury. Also Fancea is probably the most overrated guard in the NFL hes lost about a step or 5 the last 2 years
We can thank Alvin Keels for Leon not being a Jet anymore. Leon had a chance to sign a nice contract (who knows what the real numbers are), but I hear 4 yrs 15m. Unfortunately he didn't sign it. Big Fan of Leon's, but its the agent headache IMO. Hope he does recover from his leg injury and has a good year in Seattle. I believe it was the safest move for the Jets when you weigh all the factors together.
He's 27. He'll be 28 by preseason. Unless you're trying to say that his jersey number has anything to do with it.
