Wow after reading through this entire thread I truely hope as a season ticket holder for the Chargers they don't get a new stadium. This whole thing reaks of greed and bullshit. I love the colum and he hit it dead on. "If we can't afford to move then we don't." I don't go to alot of Jet games anymore but is the Meadowlands really that bad? Is it that outdated? I never thought so but maybe I'm missing something. Try going to Qualcomm, that place sucks. No parking (people park on the freaking street and in apartment complexes) , obstructed views in what would be considered priemer seating and gang members attending most of the games. Seriously if I was a season ticket holder to any team that charged this bullshit the 1st thing I'd do is write my congressman until I got a response. I know out here that shit gets alot accomplished . Most people don't wanna waste their time but I'm telling you guys to start doing it. If say 20,000 of the 160,000 thousand people who are getting buttfucked wrote congress I promise something would get done about it. I feel bad for all you guys but especially the guys that have had seats for decades and have great seats and have earned them by supporting this franchise through thick and thin and really getting screwed. BTW can somebody post a copy of this survey that I have read about in this thread?
One of the sad angles in this whole mess is, the best case scenario for long time season ticket holders would be for the Jets to win the first pick in the draft next year. Just no way people would be paying that kind of money to watch a 2-14 team. The PSL's price would have to drop dramatically. It's not an accident, or an act of a fan, that Woody spent all that money on FA's this year. If the Jets go 11-5, and make it to the AFC Championship game, or the Super Bowl, every seat will be sold. Probably not to the people who own them now, but they will be sold. If they go 2-14 while the Giants go 12-4, there won't even be any corporate value to the seats.
I don't see the corporate value in December with no roof. 25,000 of the current fans stay home....now some million dollar a year Attorney is gonna go? No way.
Exactly why I'm not paying a huge PSL for the right to eat more tickets. This is a franchise that has set all time records for no-shows at a sporting event.
28 years will keep me upstairs and that's all I care about. I am sure there are plenty of people that have been around longer. I feel sorry for my fellow upper deckers being booted out by the downstairs crew.
Going 12-4 or getting to the big game does not bring any bad angles. Give me a championship in the next 2 years and I can retire and stay home
What i don't understand is that you guys act like the Giants did the right thing by announcing that there are going to be PSL's. You would be up in arms if Woody sent this exact letter out. DO YOU REALLY HATE WOODY THAT MUCH??
Not me. This is not about Woody. This is about the NFL and sports in general. Rich owners get land and tax breaks on our dime, spend $ to build their castle, and then demand that we pay their mortgage. The anti-Woody crowd are NY'ers still blaming him for staying in NJ.
H'mm lets see Woody is responsible for Bradway & Herm. Did that duo tingle your toes? Now there is Man & Tan & if they go belly up would you still love Woody? Woody has owned the team 8 years & we still are devoid of a SB right? Does that tingle our toes? What about his constant raising of season tix prices? Do you have any positives to offset all those neagatives?
As we should. When he bought the team he said he would bring them back to NY.....and he didn't explore all the NY options. He only tried Manhattan. Queens is good enough for the Mets and the US Open. That's two major stadiums, plus Queens is the Jets ancestral home. If he tried and failed in Queens, then I wouldn't blame him at all. He didn't try. That makes him a liar. Just the way it is. I don't hate the guy. If I met him I would shake his hand real hard, hoping to dislodge a few million dollars hiding in his sleeve. These Billionaires have like 9 million on them at all times.
Well just imagine what the PSL pix would look like if Woody had to build a 1.6B stadium all by himself. He also appeared to make a most wise investment paid 625M 8 years ago once the stadium is up & running franchise should be worth maybe as much as 1.5B so in just 10 short years he made almost 1B. Not bad
We brought this on ourselves by buying all the NFL hype the jersey's all the marketing crap the comfort, on and on. Stop buying the crap, stop going to the games and stop supporting the NFL sponsors. In 10 years we will all be able to afford to go to games in decent stuctures not palaces. As long as the fill the stadium and sell you the crap at the prices they want they will continue to escalate prices sell you stuff you don't need or want and putting on a more mediocre product with more mediocre playoff games to create phony hype on a game that is becoming less and less about the product on the field.
He wanted to build the place in Manhattan more then you wanted him to becuause he could have printed money with that investment. Why would he then build his own stadium in the crappy, ugly Flushing instead of splitting the cost with the Giants. Do yourself a favor, get a financial advisor to pay your bills because you are not $ savy. GET OVER IT PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!
Of course a stadium in Manhattan would have gotten an even higher PSL and eliminated the none corporate ticket holder completely.
True. It would have been great for the city at least, if not the fans. I can't blame Woody for sticking it to NY after their politicians stuck it to him on the WSS. I'd have done the same thing.
Yankees play in the South Bronx. Aren't they building a new stadium? My bills are paid, dude...and a stadium in Queens with a roof would get a Super Bowl, final four, 2 weeks of Bruce, etc etc.. It would generate a lot more money for the Woodman. See, you and Woody are thinking small. Split a stadium? What kind of cheapa$$ shit is that? I think I may have seen you at a game, 314..... when a plane flew overhead and I looked up from the 7th row to see it. You were a tiny little speck up there in the upper deck. Don't forget your binoculars next game.
The only ones who would have got stuck are the fans with a bigger bill and the city and State tax payers.
The WSS would have been great for the city, but they are too stupid and crooked to make it happen. Look at the WTC, a fucking hole in the ground seven years later, and that was one of their primary excuses for not building the WSS. How's that working out? NYC is run by criminals and fools, why would Woody waste any more time and money dealing with them? Who would? Not to mention the Dolans down the street fucking with everything.
