Which only goes to show you how overrated statistical rankings are. Anyone who watched this defense all year and is honest can tell you that the Jets hardly ever made a big stop, gave up big 3rd down after big 3rd down, and that was with a horrid schedule. The Jets didn't beat anybody this year. Not one good team.
That stat is a goddamn JOKE. This team was TERRIBLE, flat out brutal, on 3rd down. I don't give a rat's pink ASS what the statistics say because the statistics only count how many times it happens. It doesn't account for the fact that the majority that were stopped didn't mean much, but when the Jets needed a stop on 3rd and 7 or better, they gave it up at an alarming rate - ESPECIALLY if it was late in the game or in a big spot. The games don't lie - fuck the statistics.
Okay old-time Jets fans, we get it, until the Jets win the Super Bowl this team and everyone involved sucks at their job. Spare us this insight in the future since it's the same bullshit over and over.
The Jets defense is swiss cheese compared to two years ago. All they were this year was average, and that's because the whole league stunk defensively. No 'good' defense lets Tebow go 95 yards with the game on the line when he can't throw, or gives up 99-yard plays with the season on the line, or lets the Patriots punk them twice, or gives up 900 yards to McFadden, etc. Or the fact we played some s*itty offenses. Even with giving up the 95-yard drive the Tebow Broncos weren't going to get much on us, neither were the Dolphins when they were dying early in the season or the Jags with McCown, the Chiefs with I don't even remember who (not Cassel or Orton). Not to mention the Redskins.
yes you will, but only for a short time. When your team wins the ring is kinda like a drug addict that scores a huge rock, he feels like he's set for life and for a while he his. But alas, about 3 months later he's craving another rock. then another. then another. do you think pat fans are happy losing to the giants b/c they got their ring 7 years ago? ppl who post on here saying that winning the sb is the ONLY thing that matters are wrong....rooting for a team that brings more joy than grief over the long hall is where's it's at. winning the ring is just icing.
Defense doesn't worry me at all. The offense was the one who always made me worried, with a decent offense, we'd have been in the playoffs imo.
Cruel joke huh! I guess its an official welcoming to the New York Jets Rex Three years later ; Or as i call it "Typical Jets Shit"! We better learn from last year and not repeat these mistakes. 1. Don't rest on unproven players 2. Add depth , so you have someone else to go to if your current starter is trash. 3. Stop treating your young crop of player like disposable diaper's that you verbally treat like shit and discard never leaning their true potential. 4. Properly evaluate players and keep or discard appropriately. 5. Give the golden boy some competition to motivate him or replace him. 6. Don't Just assume your coordinators will get it done. not saying take over but don't roll the dice and cross your fingers Rex get involved! Next year better be a success or I truly think Rex will be gone. I hope not , but truly think so.
Top 3rd defenses don't allow Tim Tebow to drive 90 yards for a game-winning TD, allow the Giants to go 99 yards on a 3rd and 10 from the 1 and allow the Phins to score on a 21-play drive.
So 2 drives and 1 play define how good the defense was? Give me a break. No one is saying they were a great defense. The Jets completely smothered both the Broncos and Giants teams the majority of those games. TBH, I don't even remember the Phins game because I was drinking heavily before it even started knowing the season was over. Score some fucking points and no one ever mentions the Giants or Broncos games to try and call out the defense.
Those were just a few examples. The entire year, the Jets defense could not force a key 3 and out or create a turnover. Blame the offense all you want, but when it came to crunch time, it was the defense that let you down.
Our D was not nearly as good as the ranking, I get the O and Sts put them in bad spots at times but that's not an excuse for some of the breakdowns they had. Getting the oak game w/in a TD in the 4th watching oak go down the field, melt the clock and make it a 2 score game to win, same thing at NE, vs. NE getting the lead late in the first half then watching the D allow an 80 yd drive in a minute to give them back the lead then getting the game w/in a TD in the 4th only to wacth NE go on another TD drive to extend it to 2 scores, late in the year the 99 yd TD was a killer that completely changed that game and the ridiclous 21 play 12+ min drive to Miami did the same thing the next week. The O wasn't good, the STs turned it over but the D was most disappointing since wehave the highest standards for them. If the D was even as good as they were in 2010(which was not great) the Jets easily make the playoffs in 2011.
We addressed many issues last year, but I remember thinking just before the season started, "Where is our pass rush going to come from? We still didn't adress it, AGAIN!" I am talking about a legit passrusher, not sending your LBs, safety and corners and calling out the entire NJ National Guard. Closest thing we had the year before was Jason Taylor for God's sake, and that's pretty pathetic. So with all the "defensive coaching" talk about Rex Ryan, the one thing we never go to during his entire tenure is addressing that position. I'm sick of seeing Brady in the pocket and having enough time to text his wife while waiting for Welker or somebody else to get open.
To be fair we didn't have a pass rusher in '09 or '10 and our Ds were pretty good. Rex's pressure schemes create pressure, I'm sure he'd love a JPP or Osi but those guys don't grow on trees.
