Jose Guillen is another possibility and can probably be had for nothing since his contract is so disgusting. We know how Omar loves picking up those awful contracts for fans to gripe about so this is the option I'm betting on. While Wright probably deserved to make the AS team I'd say that Hart getting voted in over Burrell is even more idiotic as they play the same position and Burrell's OPS is about .200 points higher.
Jose Guillen is not a winning player. The fact that he settles for signing with some of the worst teams in the league over the years proves that. He doesn't care about winning.
do you remember his outburst this season? it was because the royals were losing, so how can you say he doesnt care about winning? 6 in a row now and 8 out of 10, the way this team looked just 3 weeks ago i didnt think this was possible, but we do have talent and manuel is doing something right, thats 14-9 since manuel took over
He doesn't show that he cares about winning with the teams he signs with reds, pirates, devil rays, (when they sucked) nats, royals.. come on
Another option I've heard getting thrown around is Adam Dunn. He'd likely come relatively cheap and the guy is incredibly underrated because of his average and strikeout numbers. He consistently gets a .900+ OPS, has gotten 40 HRs the past 2 years and 100 RBIs in some awful Reds lineups. Stick him in the 2 hole behind Reyes or anywhere in the 5-7 range and I think we'll see some good things happen. The guy is deceptive becauase he doesn't single too often and rather takes the walk to get to 1st instead. Oh, and he's still only 28, and has played 152, 160, and 160 games the past 3 years. I'd absolutely love him. I've heard some things pointing to his value being in the range of Heilman + a AA hitter (Evans, Carp, Murphy), and I'd take that in a heartbeat.
I find it hard to believe we would get Dunn that cheap. And the thought of 200+ strikeouts is disgusting... but I do enjoy 40+ HR seasons.
OBP + 40+ HR power > strikeouts + .240 batting average Although I do agree that I find it hard to believe that he comes that cheap
Oh, me too. However, I'd be willing to go farther if need be. I've just read a few things talking about how he's just for whatever reason fallen out of favor in Cinci and that the talent needed to get him is lower than in past years. Hell, you might get me to throw in F-Mart. Don't forget that as Warthen's letting Heilman re-learn his whole pitch repertoire, he'll still have some value as a starter to teams. Apparently they're fed up with Dunn's strikeout totals. I honestly can't quote becuase I read them a few weeks ago and didn't save the links. Strikeouts, while bad, aren't necessarily that much worse than a regular out, considering that the runs he would contribute with a "productive" out rather than a strikeout offset with the extra outs saved by not hitting into DPs often at all.
Dunn is also guilty of being a base clogger. Dusty doesn't have time for guys like that. While Dunn would be great I don't see him as Omar's "type" of player either.
Do you guys know Adam Dunn doesn't really like baseball that much? Do you know that the guy doesn't have the passion to play the game that much? How much do you really know about this player? There's a reason why you're attracted to some players and there's a reason you're not attracted to some players. I don't think any of you would be very happy if Adam Dunn was brought in. I've done my homework on Adam Dunn and there is a reason why I don't want Adam Dunn. I don't want to get into specifics.
correct, he isn't latin or a "friend" or an obession of omar.. like jaun rivera that said, dunn is overrated.
