The Brewers, while a good team, get to beat up in the incredibly weak NL Central. Their early season success is a reflection of that fact. They went the whole month of April only playing one good team, the Dodgers. The Brewers record against good teams is nothing to speak of. 6-13 against LA, NYN, Phil, Min, and SD.
Jose Valverde had had 10 straight scoreless appearances since the Mets clobbered him on May 3, but he tried very hard to give away the D'Backs win over the Phils tonight. Happily he couldn't quite do it (despite help from bad defense), as Arizona held on 5-4, exending the Mets' lead over the Phils to 7 games.
I know. It must have been quite a pleasure for the Met players to be home in NYC on Memorial Day with the day off. Hope they enjoyed and come back ready to play tonight.
This is going to be a fun series, I hate us going against rookie pitchers but hopefully we do better against Lincecum than we did against Clippard. And the Brewers absolutely killed me yesterday , in the previous 3 days I've been stuck with good pitching performances and no offense Sat. Wang 7 innings 3 runs but Yanks score 1 Sun. Mussina leaves with 2-1 lead in 7th but Yanks blowpen blows it Capuano 7 innings 2 runs but Brewers kill him with no offense
Given the way Lincecum looked in the first inning, this game could be over already. How is the Giants' bullpen?
