That's pretty much my observation as well. Just for arguments sake let's compare Gholston with Harris a 2nd round pick that has played one more year. With DH, his first year was very indicative of his natural instincts and how he is able to react to plays the split second they unfold. You can pretty much tell from this that he was going to be special. With VG, all I see is an athlete, nothing more. No instincts/nose for the ball, no clues as to what to do the split second a play is unfolding. Not even a decent technique for a pass rush!!!

Not only does he look completely stiff out there, it's almost as if he doesn't even want to be on the field.....absolutely no emotion. Has anyone noticed his performance on special teams? Has he even played on ST? If he can't even perform on that level, how can he be on the top 11?

Unfortunately, and I really want to be wrong, but I think that VG will be filed under Blair Thomas someday.

You know what it is Rex whats to turn Gholston into a Terrell Suggs caliber of a player so bad.. Gholston has the size but lacks the brain right now and the heart as well.. I wouldnt care if he just was out of position but gave it a good effort and hit people every now and then and Knocked there blocks off.. But avoiding contact in this league is no good especially if your on Defense..

Does Gholston have a trade value? Rex could draw up a bunch of defensive schemes/stunts to allow Gholston to get all the sacks against Miami and Buffalo and then trade him by the Oct 20 trade deadline. 8 or 10 sacks should do it.

Can we start by just getting him ONE sack?

The people still angrily defending Gholston remind me of Scott Peterson's mom. It's obviously not willful. It comes from a good place. But it is delusional.

I can feel people getting angry just reading this, and they respond: "STOP HATING!!!" with hatred dripping from their gums.

Yikes. Okay, Mrs. Peterson. Yes, he's innocent. Yes, he's a good boy. Whatever you say. More oxygen?

(Sorry, I know the Peterson reference isn't exactly topical. I just saw a show on it. ;-) )

Guys- lets face it. To date he's sucked. HARD.

We were fooled by a workout warrior at the combine, and drafted him 6th overall.

Chalk him up under Kyle Brady, Blair Thomas, and Dwayne Busterson.

All of this talk about Gholston and his poor/lackluster play, he should have his section on this site. The guy is not what he should be. We know that. Will he get better? We don't know that. Every team gets hit with a bust, this might be our most recent. It is not the first time it's happened, and it won't be the last. Get off the guys back. It will be hard for him to ride the bench comfortably with you on it. Welcome back Calvin Pace.

I love it when fans who obviously don't know shinola about football whine about players who for the most part are doing what the coaches are asking them to do and who are contributing to the success of the team. Its totally hilarious when these self proclaimed gridiron einsteins ignore the negative performances of other players, single out one guy for their criticism and then label anybody who points out the stupidity of attacking and trashing 1 guy as a "hater". Pot meet kettle.

Coaches are asking Gholston to play like a complete pussy, get pushed out of plays by a single defender, miss tackles all while wearing his tutu? Genius, you're a freaking genius...

I guess that while you were busy polishing this guy's knob you missed the other threads- to save you the trouble of researching I'll provide a summary:

    1) Jim "Fair Catch" Leonard
    2) Sanchez and his cheap shots
    3) No More excuses for D'Brick
    4) Shotty sucks
    5) Why does Brad Smith get so much time?
    6) Anyone still in love with TJ?

Those are all from the first page. But, as you said, we're just obsessing over Gholston's shitty play and ignoring the rest of the negatives.

My God, what a perfect response. Do you see how my post, while an attack of sorts, is still kind of playful, whereas yours is just seething and sarcastic? "I love it..." "It's totally hilarious..."
No, you don't love it or find it funny in the least. You're clearly angry, which is exactly what I'm talking about. I mean EXACTLY.

Me: a) disappointed in Gholston, who is -- IMHO -- about as awful a football player as I've ever seen. b) somewhat confused, leaning toward bemused, by angry people who want to defend him.

    You: a) angry!

LOL! But I ain't mad atcha, dog! Peace.

(Man I wish I knew how to work this stupid thing so I could quote two posts in another post. All this time I've been loudly and repeatedly proclaiming myself an internet Einstein, but the awful truth is I don't know shinola about it.)

This guy is beyond disappointing! I know the coaches are asking him to do some different things but he is virtually invisable! I mean sometimes guys do things well but they don't show up on the stat sheet,,,but VG is doing very little well. He had 4 games here to shine, this was his chance and he showed very little. I am sure Rex will still play him and try and get the most out of him but lets face it ,,,,,THANK GOD PACE IS BACK!

Gholston was picked where he was because he was supposed to be a playmaker. We haven't seen anything close to that, and I don't know how people can be satisfied whatsoever with his performances.

Wow, I guess it's Gholston's fault that Harris and Scott shot through the wrong holes on those big runs towards the end of the game. I can remember one play where Gholston had no idea what he was doing, which led to a big run, but some of the other big plays were a result from our middle linebackers being over-aggressive. But I guess it's Gholston's fault whenever the opposing team run's to his side of the field, and not the other 6 players who also need to make a play.

It's ridiculous to nitpick Gholston's plays when you can focus on any other player and find a play or two where they screw up. The defense is playing well and Gholston is contributing with pressures and containment. He's developing but he's still playing way below expectations. No shit. But giving up on him in his 4th career start is moronic. I'm glad that Pace is finally back so these threads can finally end.

And for all you fatasses criticizing Gholston's heart, I'm sure you can easily put 6 hours into the gym and 6 hours into film-study and practice everyday right?

I'll support him as long as he's a Jet, but he has been disappointing. I'd really like to see him turn it around, but it's seeming less likely. I don't think he'll ever meet his initial expectations.

They probably aren't being paid millions to play professional football either.

You seem to be misinterpreting what people are saying about Gholston. It's not so much of his negative plays but his lack of positive plays. Yes guys get beat. Scott and Harris make bad plays but the thing is, they make many GOOD plays. I haven't seen Gholston make any good plays. And when i say good plays, i mean a solid tackle, sheds a block, puts pressure etc. There are many times where he can't get past a single guy and as a 5th overall pick he should be doing it more often than not, instead of never.
