Well, in the context of the entire interview, and not just the snippet Cimini wrote in his article, it sounds to me like Gholston was simply saying that he and Suggs are differet players, playing in different defenses and teams. In other words, VG doesn't know if he will play the same role on this D that Suggs plays in Baltimore, thus his "wait and see" comment. He wants to see what his role will be, and he doesn't know yet. What bothered me more was his comment about being a good football player in college and getting back to that. That sounds to me like he never bought into the scheme, and thinks he was not being used correctly. Now, he might not even be wrong about that, but it's clear he also would not adjust his game to get more playing time, playing within the defensive scheme. That is a coachability problem and one he had better fix asap. Now in retrospect, it also seems clear to me that Mangini was very stubborn, and shoved players into his scheme whether they fit or not. If they could not adapt, too bad, ride the bench. Mangini, despite his claims of running a variable scheme defense, never did attempt to to adjust his schemes to put his best players in a position to make plays.... something Ryan often talks about. I think Mangini takes some of the blame for VG's poor rookie year, but VG had better wake up and start listening to the CS. This is Gholston's make or break year. He had better get his head on straight, and soon.
nothing abuot that article or that interview scares me. Gholston is not one to make ridiculous predictions, toot his own horn, or have an ego. Frankly, I really like his attitude. Whether or not he has an Inner Killer (which is necessary, in my opinion) is totally unrelated to whether or not he puts thought into his answers.
I won't rip him for not sounding fired up. Dewayne Robertson claimed 'can't nobody block me' and everybody blocked him... I'll wait til TC starts before criticizing.
The one thing I see with Gholston since the day we got him was that he never seemed to be that fired up type of defender. He has never been charasmatic and has always been a little quite..mostly the polar opposite of Ray Lewis. If he still has all the physical attributes as he did in college all he might need is someone to light a fire under his ass. Hopefully we have found a coach that can do such a thing to player like that. Lets all cross our fingers and hope we have a come back player on our hands.
I would trust more in Ryan's words since he at least may have an idea of how to improve his production than a player's words going into a new system again
To Vernon - Toe the company line, learn your role in the new defense and work your ass off in the weightroom and on the field. Rex and company will then show you the way. Good luck, we can use you.
An i never said anyone did. Im just stating what i believe since it says "Gholston vs Suggs" so hop off trouble maker.
I don't see TBJ as the trouble maker here, why don;t you cool your jets a little. If you want to make comments about the OP quote him.
Right... He's not disappointed. He's going to have a break out year in 09. He's gonna have 18.5 sacks, 4 forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, two interceptions, one TD. Thats of course when he's 2pm alarm goes off and he wakes up....
