We're forgetting the Maccagnan himself is a scout. He's heading up college scouting. He's already got data from his scouting with the Texans - he simply brings it over here and picks up where he left off.

IT's not like we're hiring another cap guy, praise the lord.

It probably depends on who Maccagnan wants to bring in. I read the request for more funds as saying that he wanted to be able to hire people before the current contracts ran out. There are 4 months+ to the draft. Plenty of time to redo as much of the film work as they want. No more March draft, there's plenty of time to make changes this year.

That's another way of saying Terry Bradway is a very tall midget.

An we also needed a kicker in the worst way, Nugdent if he would've panned out didn't bother me, don't forget we were coming off of the Doug Brien disaster, wasn't a bad idea at all

The Jets drafting has been bad since 2005. A deep 2006 draft with 10 picks and a couple of cherry picked drafts in a row with just a few picks kind of masked that reality until 2011 which is when the wheels started falling off. 6 years is about right for bad drafts to totally sink a franchise. That's the amount of time it takes the vets to age out and the free agents to begin to age out and suddenly you're a bad roster full of holes. That's the Jets in a nutshell since mid-2011.

What? Really? I'm hoping you are saying that sarcastically.

I'm glad you're not our GM. Reactionary picks like Nugent kill the lifeblood of NFL teams: cheaper depth.

And like i've continuously said in this thread. If they fire him I have no problem with it. But bad drafts don't fall on one guy. I just find it funny how he gets credit for the bad but the praise always seems to go to someone else when they have a good draft. He's been here for good drafts and bad drafts. If he gets fired I could care less, but it hasn't been bad drafts for the last 8 years. They've hit on some later round picks and missed on some, show me the teams that constantly find real good players in the 5th, 6th, and 7th rounds. I'd bet those teams are in the minority. I've also heard things about Bradway liking guys like Russell Wilson, he didnt get his way so clearly he doesn't have the authority to pick the players, he gives his input to the HC and GM and they decide.

Once again, I have no problem with him being shown the door but I think he gets way to much blame. We've had Cap guys in the GM chair for to long. That would be a much bigger concern for me.

The only thing I to here from the new GM in his first press conference is the same thing that Dick Steinberg said in his first with the Jets, "That's enough firing for one day"

Nugent was considered a top pick, but hindsight GM's like yourself are always right!

You don't pick a kicker in the 2nd round, period.

I can't believe anyone is justifying that pick, but it only takes one person.

And who did we give our 1st round pick to for Doug Jolley?

Yeah, great comparison because the Raiders are on top and winning all kinds of championships. They aren't a mess at all.

He drafted so many guys that are not on the team anymore that's a joke in itself. When you draft a guy you would like to think he will be on the team for atleast 4 -5 seasons
There's so many guys he has drafted that didn't last more then 3 seasons or less who were complete busts or mediocre

La Conforma at his guesses again, and he's saying the Jets have interest in Gene Smith. This guy BEST be wrong about this one. Gene Smith was the former GM in Jax, nuff said.

I think organizationally this is the correct thing to do. If you are getting new everyone on the CS, revamp everything and get everyone on the same page, timeline, and growth plan. We don't need some people thinking their job is on the line while others thinking they have time to establish a 3 year plan or anything like that. Get everyone on the same plan and timeline and if it fails it fails, but it didn't fail because people were fractured or not communicating properly.

Secondly, the Jets scouting department has been hit or miss. It's hard to really say overall since I don't have the ability to compare them straight vs other teams but

Richardson and Wilkerson and Mangold and Brick and Revis were great picks. I think you could put them all in top of the league category. The struggle, as noted by many here before, did we hit on an elite offensive skill player? QB, HB, WR? Not really. There were also years we didn't have very many draft picks to go on. So if there is a huge hole on the resume, it's offensive skill player.
