It wasn't just 1 hint of trouble - Tannenbaum mismanaged the team after the 2010 AFCCG, whiffed on tons of draft picks and failed to pay off on his gamble. He had to go and we needed a new direction [the wrong direction, but hey I guess 2 steps back 5 steps forward?]. Tannenbaum wasn't going to get us back to a conference game. Same w/ Schottenheimer - he was an awful OC and now he's out of the league. What does that tell you about him
he made some mistakes after 2010 no doubt but he also proved he could build SB contenders so he deserved the chance to try again rather than starting over like we did which set the franchise back many years. Schottenheimer is out of the league by choice. we had a good thing going here, the QB was improving and it all began to fall apart w/ scapegoat #1 leaving/fired.
IMO Tanny got fired because of the Tebow fiasco and bad drafts. The other mistakes, like the bad contracts, cap hell...etc..., I thought he could/would recover from.
I think we had a bad year, had a losing record for first time since 2007 and Woody felt pressure from the fanbase. It never works when owners listen to their fans. NYG would have 2 less SB titles if they listened to their fans in the last decade.
Idzik was a pressure from the fanbase fire and rightfully so but not Tanny. In the NFL, even more specifically NFL in NYC, when you make a big splash move in the off-season then have it blow up in your face, there always has to be a scapegoat to get the ax. You just knew the moment we acquired Tebow that it was one of those moves that would lead to someone losing their job at the end of the season if it didn't pan out. I felt the same about the Favre acquisition in 08. Mangini took the fall for the Favre sabotage and Tanny took the fall for Tebow. That's just the way it goes.
I do but either way it was the wrong move and what's done is done. Hopefully this new regime gets us going again.
Those mistakes turned us into a bottom barrel team. He didn't deserve the chance - you don't get chances like that in the NFL. Schottenheimer did not have a good thing here, he sucked - he held back the offense. They all had their hand in ruining the young QB. If you want to improve the young QB - you don't give him Wayne Hunter and Plaxico Burgess in a crucial developmental year. Those mistakes closed our SB window. Also, ruined a young QB w/ potential.
We were a bottom barrel team in 2012. I don't care how "close" we were to a playoff berth, that team was awful and was a shell of it's former self. Don't even bring up the injuries - injuries are part of the game and I know that's exactly where you are going.
A less talented but properly constructed roster will beat a talented but poorly constructed roster more times than not. I rather the former than the latter.
Well hell man...stop asking stupid questions...you know why it's the most successful stretch in NY Jets history. When you are the whipping boy, in the NFL, since 1970 then you have NO WHERE to go but UP! Jesus...is it that hard to figure out. It's not too hard to be successful when the NY Jets have essentially sucked their entire existence outside one or two damn years in what...50? Stop making stupid comments.
I wouldn't have to ask stupid questions if folks like you wouldn't post such stupid comments. so would it have been better to remain bad? obviously it was hard or we would have been better previously. we were one of the better franchises in the AFC the last 14 years all while having a dynasty team in our division. I am not saying erect a statue but have some appreciation for the folks who gave us a chance at multiple SBs. it's embarrassing and it is one of the reasons we have such an awful fanbase.
I don't see what your point is, if you are asking me if Idzik is better than Tanny then absolutely not. That doesn't mean Tanny should still be here.
