Geno was pretty bad throughout the season, didn't show much progression - he missed on timely throws throughout the entire year and didn't show the ability to read defenses. So when the Jets had nothing to play for you show up (last 4 games)? That's fools gold.

He had some decent moments. had A LOT of bad moments. And, if you asked the Jets if they were playing for anything, they'd likely say they were. And how many of those poor throws were the result of poor OL play? More than a couple.

Geno is in a pretty unique position for a 2nd round pick who's shows a lot more bad than good in the last 2 years. He's most likely going to get a 3rd chance to prove he can start in training camp/preseason.

I think Geno can end up being a better QB than he's looked, but I also don't think he's done enough to lock down the position. Give him a guy like Amari Cooper, and a better offensive line, maybe he has a better year next year if we have a HC like Kubiak that can work to his strengths. But, I only see him having like a 50% chance to start because there aren't any good free agent QBs out there, and likely we aren't drafting a QB in the first round.

If he can't take a snap from center, that's partially on him, but mostly that's on our coaches. We should be running an offense that suits the guy, not trying to suit him to our offense. It's the most important position on the field- you can't have a young QB continually doing what he isn't good at.

I want to like Geno, but he makes it really tough. He has a lively arm, but still misses many throws. I think he actually misses fewer throws than Sanchez did; remember how many times we'd throw a WR screen, and Sanchez would hit a wide open guy at his feet for either no gain, or a 1-yd loss? It was all the fucking time. God only knows why Shotty kept that play in the playbook, but, anyway.

So, I could see him getting better over time, but, (a) it's taking too long and (b) the only reason why he starts next year is because we must not have a better option.

That's the biggest reason to give Geno next year, because there is nothing better out there. I would draft a QB prospect in mid rounds and have him sit and learn, and let Geno start (unless the QB prospect looks much better, but that's unlikely). I would much prefer to give Geno another year with a more offense friendly coaching staff than spend money on guys like Locker, Shaun Hill, Vick, or Cutler.

we "gave him" this year, we shouldn't "give him" another. he didn't earn that, he has to earn his stay as starter and he hasn't so far.

he hasn't staved off the notion that we shouldn't look elsewhere based on his body of work, even if that means checking out scraps or mid round rookies. all he's proven is that he has the Capability to be a good starter but none of the reliability.

I'm bored, but made more knowledgeable from your posts. It's an incongruence that may keep me from sleeping peacefully.

Really an unfair comparison other than them both being QB's. Vinny was slow and an out right gunslinger and went to the bottom feeders bucs (at that time). had little to no support. Geno has more physical ability came to team with very good rb's and was coddled to not make mistakes. And yet...

I can't say that you made any real sense. Seems like you started to say something, realized the absolute foolishness of the opinion, but kept typing anyway. Vinny sucked. Geno sucked. MOST new QBs suck. Some get better. Some never do. But, please, let's find some irrelevant differences in their suckitude so that we can make Geno worse than Vinny Testaverde's first few unrivaled sucky years.

I'm not sold that he's the answer. But I don't mind if he competes and actually earn the job. The talent is there it's the mental part that he has to get down.

Also unfair considering Vinny has had the chance to turn it sound while Geno hasn't. All depends on how you look at it.

Also, 35 picks is 35 picks, no matter how you look at it. Glad Vinny really turned it around though,

Well said. No reason to dump him with his contract. If another QB beats him out in camp, Geno is a solid back-up to have.
