Who knows what it would have been

The facts are we wasted $12 million in salary cap space to go 1-5 as well as 6 games for Geno or One of the younger guys

No one ever said Geno would even be good, we were all just saying Fitz is a bad QB and it's a huge waste to resign him given the situation

Regardless of how the other options are or would have been it was a dumb mistake

Not having Decker is a major disadvantage.

No excuses here...Geno is at the point in his career where he needs to put up or shut up

Some guys progress at different speeds but he's got a good enough team around him and enough time to learn that he needs to play well

I think that's a bit optimistic. With the horrible game plan and shitty offensive line play, I feel like it wouldn't have mattered.

When Geno starts getting hit, he folds. That's been his MO since he got into the league. We'll see if he's gotten past that, but unfortunately I don't think that's the case.

Uh Stefan Diggs had 9 catches for 182 yards on National Television against the Packers.

Bradford's been good but he's also benefitting from the best defense in the league who gave up 14 points to Aaron Rodgers, and 10 points to Eli Manning and Cam Newton. Poor example.

That looks like Woody had input. I hate the idea of an owner ever getting involved in the football team. But if Woody swayed Bowles, I have to say it was the right decision.

I know if Geno soils himself on TV this weekend the bots will still have an excuse. Decker is out. The wind speed wasn't unfavorable. The OC isn't right. They are the ultimate apologists in Jets history and so pathetic.

It's amazing to me the amount of hate for Geno. Fitz was clearly a QB who was bound for regression, all of his peripheral statistics showed a QB who benefited from a cake schedule and tremendous luck. There was a reason no other team was interested in a QB who had such a good season: They knew what they were seeing wasn't repeatable. Petty is a mediocre athlete with no experience and yet Jets nation has crowned him the franchise savior, it's an embarrassment. The best chance we have/had at decent QB is Geno. He's a plus athlete at the position with actual NFL experience (He's also the same age as Petty, who has ZERO experience). He's also played his two real seasons as a young QB in a horrible environment where his bet WR's were a hamstrung Decker and Jeremy Kerley.

And the Fitz apologists aren't more pathetic? Arguing against logic and film to root for a guy who clearly wasn't the answer.

Geno sucks. The Jets are wasting their time playing him. The only legitimate reason to play Geno this week is if the team has decided it wants to tank for the 1st pick in the draft and they intend to play Geno the entire season to make it happen. Otherwise (and I assume they aren't smart enough to tank), Petty and Hackenburg should each get equal opportunities to play for the rest of the season and they should cut Geno.

He will rise and fall based on ability, which he has. And Fitz and Petty don't.

The only person apologizing for Fitz now is Macc for caving in to sign him. At least Fitz backers knows he's done.

Geno has a bad game. The memory of it lasts until the next one. Actually, it lasts one play....

"Did you see that INT? It wasn't even his fault!"

Do you remember the last regular season game that Geno Smith started? It was a week 17 game against a Dolphins team who still had a chance at the playoffs. I'll let you figure out the rest. Just sayin'

Yeah I remember. I was watching it. And if he repeats the performance that would be awesome.

But if he completely craps the bed this week... I'm going to make a bunch of screen captures of the excuses and keep them for future reference.

You really believe that Petty (25, 5th round pick with no experience in a regular season game) and Hackenberg (Not even dressing yet or practicing yet) are going to give us a better chance to win than a 2nd round pick who has started almost two full seasons in the NFL and has actually had *SOME* success? Please say yes so everyone knows to ignore the rest of your posts on anything football related.

People talking about signing Fitz as a mistake are wrong. The Jets went (10-6) in 2015 and Fitzpatrick threw for 31 touchdowns and had great chemistry with Marshall and Decker. To not give them a chance to repeat than in 2016 would have been a mistake. Hindsight is 20/20 now, but at the moment the Jets did the right thing. Give Mac credit for 1. Not paying Fitz more. 2. Not giving him a multi-year deal.

Fitz's history caught up to him in 2016, but that does not take away the great 2015 he and the team had.

I'm not here to make excuses, I'm here to say that he deserves a chance to prove that he's learned and can show us something. I'm just tired of the unwarranted hate towards him, along with the love of a 5th round pick who hasn't taken a real snap yet.
