It's not... IMO it's actually worse. That said, the same leash was given to Sanchez his rookie season... It just seems as our O can never be consistent w/the D
I'm not to concerned. Remember, this is guy who has had 4 NFL starts. A lot of big name QBs did the same when they were rookies. I will be concerned if he keeps turning them over and not fixing his mistakes. This is a HUGE learning phase for him. If his turnovers haven't declined by the middle of the season, then we need to worry. As of right now, he's a rookie in a throwing offense with little to no weapons. Let him adapt and learn the game before being concerned.
Was trying to create a table, but failed miserably at the coding. Can someone help me out here? PM me the code made up to make the table? Thanks!
Just to add this to the conversation: Peyton Manning's first 4 games: 2 TDs, 11 INTs, 1 fumble lost. Rookies make mistakes. Can't pull plug too soon.
Geno needs to continue to start and get out of this funk - that is the only way to find out what we have in Geno his rookie year. Eventually the game will slow down just a little bit, and he'll quit thinking as much and just react and take what the defense gives him. That and his footwork are the two major things I see. Geno is pretty much the only option I see at this point. If he doesn't learn anything by say week 10, then we got a major issue. Let's hope Geno has a good week of practice and take that good practice into our next game. He will need to play like a star to get us a W against the Falcons
Please stop. Sanchez is now irrelevant. Smith should be compared to his peers, not to an inactive QB who will never start for the Jets again and may never start another NFL game.
Trouble is we HOPE this is geno's funk. What if it doesn't get much better than this. It should, just by gainng experience. But u never know. That's what they said about many other qb's taken in the first and second rounds over the last couple decades that didn't make it past a few starts.
The stat comparison seems to coincide with the visual impression Geno has made watching the first 4 games. There are some things to be optimistic about mainly his ability to throw for big chunks and string together good drives when he's in a comfortable rhythm with our best receivers on the field. The turnovers couldn't be a worse problem right now though and the stats show the other recent QB's haven't struggled like that. Either he learns unlike Sanchez and we tie our future to his development or he continues to turn the ball over at a suicidal rate and we get a better draft pick to target a more promising QB prospect than he ever was.
That thought pattern goes both ways. Let's just let him play and see what happens. It could go one of two ways and we all know that. Good thing is, he shows some glimpses of greatness at times
Whut? He's thrown a few very nice passes, a couple of nice runs. But "greatness"? Sounds like you're hoping for greatness rather than seeing it. I'm hoping too, but he hasn't been " great" in any respect- not yet. _
Comparisons are fine but we don't wanna turn this into a "Sanchez Sux Thread part Deux" or a Sanchez vs Geno ..etc.. as long as everything is on topic, we're good... I'm hoping to see this thread last the season. also hoping Geno can get his shit together along w/ our Receiver situation..
Geno is exciting. The offense looks exciting. It is a work in progress. The kid has a lot of ability, can marty get his head right? If he does, we got a gem, if not, its a second round pick, we took gholdston at 6 and some guy from sc at 5. So if a second rounder doesnt work out....so be it
UPDATED!!! Geno's stats as of last night: Geno Smith (2013) Passing: Comp. - 94 Att. - 156 Pct. - 60.3% Yds. - 1289 YPA - 8.3 AYPA - 6.9 TD - 7 INT - 8 Rate - 80.3 Rushing: Att - 19 Yds - 106 Avg - 5.6 TD - 1 Fum - 4 Fum Lost - 3
Hey man, the kid just needs his confidence and PLENTY of reps. It won't be an easy road for him - but I think as long as we have the coaches around him and we get him some weapons he should develop at a good pace. He shows he can do a lot on the field. He's a play-maker. Each week you just see something different from him a certain throw or awareness in the pocket. I even saw him step UP into the pocket on some plays, that scramble at the end of the game, he stepped up in the pocket and made a play - encouraging signs for Geno. I hope he can play another turnover free football game this coming Sunday. Protecting the football with 2 hands on scrambles is the key - I just want to see the little things improve from game to game.
You don't lead your team down the field in a loud dome on the road in one of the toughest places to win in the NFL if you don't have the right stuff. Greatness at the QB position is about personal belief and the ability to lead the others around you to the same position. Geno did just that last night. That's great stuff.
Being at the Georgia Dome to watch the game live, Geno played like a seasoned veteran last night. He played great under pressure especially with the crowd noise of the Falcons fans. It's good to see him owning up to his mistakes through the first quarter of the season and making quick smart decisions with the ball on the road. Marty called a good game and sky is the limit for Geno and the JETS.
The Adjusted Yards per Pass Attempt is just really strong at this point. He's pushing 7 yards per dropback, including his scrambles and sacks. That's like money in the bank.
No argument from me there--I was there in person and he was absolutely--GREAT. When I made that post it was after his first four games in which he's been pretty good to pretty rough, but last night was a turning point, I think. He's just so damn accurate--he makes it look easy. _
Aside from RG3, he's having the best season compared to the other rookies last year. His turnovers are the only thing holding him back. He could actually be one of the best deep ball throwers in the league so far, which is pretty insane. He's quietly outplaying Russell Wilson, and arguably playing as well as or better than Andrew Luck. There's still a long season left, but as a Jets fan, you have to be excited about the potential he has shown. If he can build off this past game and limit the turnovers, we could have something very good to build around. Not that it matters much in the grand scheme of things, but if Clyde Gates doesnt drop that pass in the endzone vs the Pats, Geno has as many TDs as Ints.
