It wouldn't shock me if Geno made big strides in terms of knowing the playbook in the offseason. The Gruden interview prior to him being drafted gave me the impression that he has a high football IQ. Even if he knew the entire playbook inside and out it would only be half the battle.
For sure. It's like if you watched a Tiger Wood instructional video over and over on how to drive a golf ball 400 yards in a straight line. You got it all down, the grip, stance, back swing, everything. Then hit the driving range with your new 'knowledge'. Results? Shank. Hook. Duff. Shank. Hook. Duff. WTF?!
J JWN gave him a zero rating & I think JWN knows a thing or 2 about QBs. Jaws from ESPN gave him #29 out of 32 which seems to indicate he to was not impressed with GS skills as a QB
I think this is a very good point. Hey there's a first for everything. if the jets offense led the league in third and long conversions but also led the league in attempts how much does it mean? Probably not much.
Again U have derailed I was impressed ONLY with KC quick release pure & simple which means I was never impressed with KC as a total FB player. Our FO was however since the powers to be trekked westward to check him out before drafting him & those so called experts thought he was the real deal to draft him in the 2nd round
What the HELL DOES JWN know about anything. All he did was win a the only Super Bowl the Jets have. A zero rating? Cmon Joe, really? Thats way to generous.
Speaking of Cimini http://espn.go.com/blog/nflnation/post/_/id/132050/jets-can-be-special-if-geno-smith-flourishes Decent article. Notable quotes: ~"They say his footwork now comes naturally. A year ago, he was so unfamiliar with the Jets' offense that he counted steps in his head." ~"It's gotten away from me telling him exactly what to do," Mangold said. "Now it's more of a two-way discussion." Geno plays in one of the roughest sports city in the world. If not the the toughest media wise. So his critics will be there. And to say he has got it down to perfection is way off. I don't think we have seen him play naturally. I do believe it's coming but what we are going to see is difficult to predict. It takes anywhere from 3 to 5 years for QB's to master the WCO. Last year he was counting steps. This year hopefully it's about timing with his receivers. In his first season he was no different than Sanchez who seemed poised to keep the reins. Mark was in the league for many years. At least with that said it is expectant that there will be improvement. Just not to the point as if Vick were to start. I don't believe he is the worst QB but is he the best option at this point in time? Starting him again can ruin him. Pulling him after a few bad starts is pointless for his career. He played last year because he had to. This year that is not the case but it seems they want to pursue it. Let's make this clear. Vick is not Mark Brunell behind Mark Sanchez. It would be wise to start Vick and and school up Geno in the wings. I think this could be a recipe for disaster if it goes down any other way. I hope Mike Vick destroys it in camp leaving no other option.
Of course he has total command of the offense....handoff, handoff handoff, slant to Kerley, down and out to Decker, run for your fuckin scrub azz life, butt fumble, INT.
