Well, the CS does have to show a bit more consistency with a unified message. Chan did say no comp then said it was never a consideration. Bowles said there will be comp. Good coach/Bad coach head games? I dunno but we'll see come TC. At least Bowles isn't turning over total authority to his OC on this matter and that speaks well. We already know how that disconnect ends. Saw the movie last year.

I look at the fact that Gailey said what he said as a plus, that he's looked at the film of Geno and believes he can do some good things with the kid.
I'm cheering hard for Geno to win the starting job, I'm really interested in seeing what he can do in this offense with these new weapons.

Its amazing.....People fighting over a guy who makes Mark Sanchez look like Dan Marino.Geno had that great game in Miami to end the year but other then that he was hard to watch last season....Let's not forget he got benched for a unprepared aging former dog serial killer....

Hopefully not old-senile coach vs. sane coach.

I agree....I think it made us cringe given the way we've just very recently functioned as a franchise.

But I don't see this as the same. It really doesn't bother me nearly as much as it seems to bother many on the board.

I agree. That's the first misstep I've seen the new regime make. It's not major at this point, but if they're not on the same page, could be a real problem down the road. They need to communicate better, and as you say, have a unified message.

I do LOVE it that Bowles is involved with the offense and with decisions regarding the offense. He may wind up being only marginally better than Rex with regards to his knowledge of offense, but he doesn't seem like the type to throw his hands up and give up, either. I feel certain that he will keep working to improve and to learn more about offense, and become a complete HC.

I missed the timing. Good catch! Hopefully, you're right that Bowles intentionally waited to rebut Gailey, and it just wasn't a matter that he forgot or was too busy.

I don't have a dog in this dispute, am just curious. What's the problem with starting another thread? I've posted on a lot of Jets boards over the years and never seen one as anal as this one about threads. It's kind of funny. While I agree that we don't need multiple threads on a topic and it does tend to clutter things, it's not the end of the world if it happens. I especially don't understand when just because something crops up in the middle of another thread, why that should mean that someone shouldn't start a new thread on that topic. If anything, that's more sensible and helps keep the other thread more on topic.

I have a feeling that Gailey probably meant something along the lines of they wont be splitting first team reps throughout the off-season and stuff. Geno will get the first team reps and be given the initial opportunity to start. If Geno still isnt getting it (serious possibility), than they have a QB who already knows the offense.

It would have been nice for the message to be a bit more unified. But I have no doubt that both coaches understand that if Geno isnt fit to start this year, he wont.

I think he waited a week because that was the next time he was scheduled to speak to the media, open otas, and didn't feel he needed to rush to make a statement on this non issue

True. Everyone should know that based on Bowles comments about not accepting all the TOs. Geno has to up his game, improve his accuracy and cut down on the mistakes and TOs, or he will be rooted to the bench.

I think it's more along the lines of him not feeling the need to go out of his way to speak to the media about something that he views as a non-issue. Better to let the horde come to him after practice, where he can answer the same question multiple times, all in one sitting.

In his press conference he said (loosely quoted summary) "Chan and I both view the Qb situation the same way, after all we do talk all the time, he just speaks in a matter of fact way. There is no real competition for Geno at this point in time because Fitz is hurt, Simms is [Simms] picking up the offense, and petty is raw. Competition will be in full effect during training camp when the pads go on, and we are better able to evaluate the QB's. Geno is like any other player, if someone is playing better, then that player will play"

    It's a non-issue.

Yes, I like your first paragraph, and that seems accurate for Bowles' personality.

You can definitely see his frustration with the media, he likes to keep his work on the field and within the team. Those guys are headliner assholes.

I'm sure they'll give him some sort of opportunity just to do their due diligence and be thorough, but I wouldn't bet the ranch on his making the team.

EDIT: Looks like Simms' opportunity will be with the Bills and Rex.

I find that when multiple threads are opened on the same topic, one two things happen. Either the total knowledge and opinion is getting diluted - when people post only in one. Or people post same thing in two and you end up with duplicates of the same thing.
Now, in same cases splitting is appropriate. For example splitting Deflategate into parts of Brady role, BB role, league future, etc made sense. In this case however, OP started new thread on an article that was in the progress of being discussed elsewhere. IMO this is just "Look at me!!" thread.

Gailey wants major credit for coaching Geno Smith it also appears, he believes he can fix him. It would be one hell of an accomplishment.

If Gailey manages to make something serviceable out of Smith, he deserve all the credit in the world.
The problem is that "serviceable" must mean "consistent", which can be evaluated only long-term. Not sure how much leash there will be though.
