No matter what any one prints about GS the facts are very, very different as follows 1) The CS distrusts GS 100% 2) The de facto QB of the NYJs is Chan Gailey 3) GS WILL NOT be able to change a play that is sent in by CG 4) The other QB is also valueless 5) How do U feel about CG being our de facto QB since he has been a loser no matter where he has been/ 6) Explain how U think we can win under the above circumstances
http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/writer...hy-jets-are-smart-not-to-scrap-geno-smith-yet its an interesting look at some of smiths plays, tempered, in-depth
You realize an average QBR is 91, right? He had 1 great game, 2 above average games, 4 below average games and 6 putrid debacles. Statistically he sucked.
Thanks for that. If you want to be optimistic about Geno's chances this is the sort of thing that you should be looking at not passer rating stats.
I read that article. It basically ignores Smith's track record of playhing like crap when the season is still on the line. Until Smith shows he can produce in games that count, optimism is misplaced when it comes to him.
Geno was god-awful last year when the games counted. Geno was mediocre after the games no longer mattered. Geno was otherwordly when the Dolphins had been knocked out of any chance of the playoffs the week before and had packed their bags and were setting up tee times. So basically he played his best game ever in an exhibition game. _
I have to wonder if the any part of the season actually mattered AT ALL last year, considering there was no secondary or turnovers created by the defense to speak of... Don't ALL the games matter to a degree? Or just the ones where Smith played badly...
Your refusal to acknowledge the obvious speaks to your level of geno apologist. To put it more plainly, you're a massive geno apologist.
Geno Smith holds onto the football far too long. Hopefully he can read defenses and process that information quicker in his 3rd season otherwise he's toast.
acknowledge what? The Jets had NO secondary and generated an almost record low number of turnovers on defense. So, some 2nd-year QB is supposed compensate for that enough for the games to matter? I'm not apologizing for shit! I'm just trying to add some perspective to the ignorant masses, which, of course, is lost on them.
Yep, that pretty much covers it. Ftr I have never said it is impossible for him to become effective. I just think the odds are very much against it, and I would rather go into this season with a Qb with a proven record of accomplishment than engage in another Smith Experiment.
He has all the physical talents in the world, coupled with a 5 cent brain and a slow release. If you can fix stupid, he can be a very good QB. Has nothing to do with his line or the talent around him--those are just excuses It has to do with what's between his ears. Fix that and we're set. _
Yep, 24 games into his NFL career and with the installation of a competent OG and 2nd good WR, the lights started to come on...It's unheard of for a QB to take almost two full seasons to become proficient. Oh wait, it's not.
acknowledge the fact that Geno plays his best when the season is over and the games are meaningless. do it. don't be a blind geno apologist.
Geno will once again get a chance deserved or not is debatable but he will get his chance. I just think it is funny how all of sudden MM became the worst OC in the league. If you ask me the games Geno played well was because of great game planning by MM.
"Show hidden content by Clark Gaines" - think I'll pass on that one. Clark showed himself very quickly after he got here to be on a contest to win who is the biggest Geno Smith Homer on these boards.
Conversations here have me convinced the best way to understand Smith's problems is to view them in dynamic terms, where several factors play out together. Not only do these factors interact with each other, but it makes it I think near impossible to separate each factor out and address them one by one. So I would hardly defend his intelligence, but instead would take issue with your post only to note that it is not a simple matter of intelligence or lack thereof. Or of a slow release. It's a number of factors. Even the choking perception is difficult to isolate, becaue if anyone else played with the limitations he has, they would have be in a coma to not be nervous, knowing what the end result has been of that dynamic. In other words the term clusterfuck comes to mind.
