Yeah I can see where you're coming from & you may be correct, but whilst this new regime is taking this stance, until a major star player steps out of line to this extent, then that remains to be seen.

In my opinion what Sheldon has done, isn't in the same league as what IK has done, although I certainly don't condone the things he has done away from the locker room. Anyhow, as has been discussed in previous threads, what he has done, could certainly hit him in the pocket when it comes to contract negotiations. Time will tell I suppose.

Well in that case if Sheldon , or Revis , or even someone secondary like Demario Davis or Douzable did what IK did , he wouldnt have been released either.

Its very easy to try to diffuse a situation when it comes to players that would've at best been on the 53 but not dress for the games.

And to me trying to elude police at 140mph , in a car smelling of weed , with a gun and a minor in the car is just a littttttle bit worse than tuning up a guy who owes you money and wants to get in your face about it.

That's stupid. Why would you pick on somebody your own size?

Yeah, I always thought the saying "pick on someone your own size" had to do with someone who STARTS a confrontation. Sounds like Smith started this, or at least contributed in equal measure to its escalation. Different situation, and that saying does not apply.

Again the point going forward here is not whether IK has any responsibility for what happened. It's more about Smith's judgment, lack thereof, and being a cocky punk.

It's also apparent that other than Nagle, who despite my disagreemetn with what he is saying deserves to be excepted from what I am about to say, most here who want to say Smith was essentially blameless were, unsurprisingly, pro Smith before this incident occurred.

Well I obviously am and have been a Smith skeptic, in part because I dont see him as having th temperament to be a team leader. So this encounter with IK fits my view of the larger narrative. Just as choosing to see Smith as blameless fits the narrative of those who were somewhere on the spectrum towards thinking Smith was about to become a great leader and top tier NFL Qb.

Which of course was a silly position on their part. Great camp my foot.

My biggest issues with Geno has always been his lack of football IQ and his lack of leadership skills.

This is just more evidence of the latter and isn't helping convince me that the former will be getting better anytime soon.

You can't fix stupid--on or off the field.

When you are striving to be a team leader (especially a QB) U don't get into a verbal argument in the locker room over personal matters. Many of us felt he lacked the necessary mentality to be such a leader (although I was willing to cut him slack). Maybe it's a maturity issue? Either way he has shown poor judgement on and off the field. As a Jet fan who has been waiting too damn long for a top team.I say no more Geno. Be a backup or be gone. JMHO

Heard on the radio (can't recall which) that the Jets chance of winning the SB has actually gone up since the incident. Who would have guessed..:D:rolleyes:

There are many meanings for "sucker Punch" Many of them quite funny.

If you're having an argument with someone, and you stick your finger in their face and say (paraphrase) "I dare you to do something about it," and they immediately punch you in the face ... then that's is not a sucker punch. Otherwise, every punch ever thrown in the history of mankind was a sucker punch.

Yes, and to FlaJet's point, while there's an overlap with maturity here, you don't see any other young players, certainly not young Qb's, with quite the same issues he has had. I guess RG3 had some things said he'd probably like to take back, but nothing like fights with teammates.

I just can't think of any real comparitor to Smith. I guess in the very general category of being your own worst enemy you can think of people like Jeff George. But the particulars there were quite different.

Just our luck as Jet fans to have a Qb who is an ineffective player and a real cakehole as a person at the same time.

To holy hell with any of Geno's "upsides" and "potential". It is my highest hopes that I never see him take the field in a Jets uniform ever again. I have been alive since 1990, and he might be my least favorite Jet to ever wear the uniform since I've been watching.

Bowles wasn't there, he has no idea what happened other than hearsay.

    If you believe THAT narrative.
There are just as many that have Geno not waving or pointing his finger in his face.

Oh geezuz people need to stop.

The problem is--folks keep talking about only one part of his quote and running with it.

Bowles was not there. He didn't lie.

    This is what he said:

"He got cold cocked, sucker punched whatever you want to call it, in the jaw."

Whatever you want to call it. He was using terms interchangeably and wasn't being entirely specific about the incident.

IK did NOT "sucker punch" Geno--they had a FACE TO FACE verbal altercation that escalated into finger pointing, physical contact was made and one of the combatants punched the other combatant in the face.

    NOT a sucker punch.
