Link? No caveats? No context? I hvae not seen anything so unequivocal.

Meanwhile we have seen players devolve by playing under poor circumstances. The David Carr syndrome.

No matter what Vick says, if Smith does not show significant improvement in camp, I agree a Qb controversy is likely.

There is nothing more retroactive than the NFL. and esp QB picks. The Jets fate was sealed a year ago when they took Smith at 32nd. If he doesn't become as good a QB as Russell
Wilson or Drew Brees, he will be a failure. That is why I love and hate the NFL.

Typical Jets fan give the guy a damn season with real wrs to throw to and a better running game to see if he will be good or not damn not every qb is going to come into their rookie season and light it up especially when you have the worst wrs in the NFL.......if enough is enough for you go to root for another team if you aren't going to support this one

I just want to say that people on the internet who pretend to be Jets fans are douchebags. I'm not saying you're pretending to be a Jets fan or that you're a douchebag. No, I'd never call a douchebag a douchebag on here, just speaking in general terms - I hate douchebags.

If Geno doesn't show significant improvement over last year he isn't going to be starting. That was the whole point of the Vick signing. The Jets have a viable plan B if Geno just isn't ready to go. There isn't going to be a controversy over it, just Michael Vick behind center to start the season.

Last year Geno had a rough start to camp that was kind of masked by the fact that Sanchez was matching him bad day for bad day and good day for good day. Nobody really put together the fact that neither of them was having a good camp in general until Sanchez came out and threw the pick 6 to the Lions on the first series of the pre-season and suddenly everybody was like "OMG, we're so screwed!"

Well, this year we're not screwed if Geno is stumbling around with bad footwork and throwing the ball to the wrong guys in camp and the pre-season games. We have a viable QB to start the season with at that point.

Sanchez was never viable for the Jets last year because of the history.

You seem to know a lot about the "people on here" for someone who joined last weekend.

Rex's Jets have won 46 games over 5 seasons with worse at QB. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see them go 9-7 next year with Vick at QB if that's what it turned out to be. In fact I'd be really surprised if they don't go 9-7 next year with whomever at QB from among the available options. Geno was really raw last year. All the play makers were on rotating injuries all season long. It really can't get worse than that.

I know there are lots of "fans" who think this team is going to bottom out next year but if you look at where they've been and what the trajectory is it is much more likely they surprise in a good way.

How is our WR problem last year an excuse Peyton Manning couldn't have done shit with that team. David Nelson was our top WR like come on. As for the Qbs you mentioned 2 of them play with top 4 RBs and TY Hilton is light years better then anyone we had on our team last year. As for CJ he wasn't brought he to be the lead back so I don't see how you could have a problem with having a 1000 yard rusher spelling Ivory, I could see if he was brought here to get 25 touches a game. Geno deserves a fair shot with a competent offense in place. If he doesn't progress this year then that should be all she wrote and we should move on.

He has said it a couple times, but he says it in the interview he did a few weeks ago on New York Jets .com. It should still be up there.

As far as your post goes, I agree. But there is also the possibility that the situation will be something other than clear.

What happens if, as I expect, Vick does better in camp, but comes up with some nagging injury, that he can play with, but causes concern?

What happens if Vick is better, but not by a whole lot, and then the argument that Smith is more the long term solution is invoked? How would anyone here feel about that if you have a one or two year contract?

Personally although I am clearly one here who thinks that Vick is likely to be the better Qb in the short run, I also hope that the basis for a decision at Qb, either way, be relatively clear, leading to a decision that is easy to understand.

Because if Vick looks better and they go with Smith anyway, some players are going to be unhappy with that, and it I think will also serve to undermine Rex, on the theory that playing Smith would have been Idzik's call, not his (ftr this would be the perception ironically even if Rex agreed with it).

In a situation other than clear Geno will start.

It doesn't matter what Vick does in camp. The only question is whether Geno is ready to go or not. If Vick is better than Geno but the Jets are confident that Geno can get the job done then Geno is going to start. That's probably the primary source of Vick's discontent at this point. He's realized that his job status is dependent on Geno's performance not on his own performance. That would upset any vet who thought he could still play.

The Jets start Geno in that situation. You're not going to start a 34 year old QB with an injury history over a 24 year old QB in his second season if you have a choice in the matter.

This is a really simple situation. Geno didn't do enough to get a solid grip on the Jets starting job last season. He's not going to get another season of making rookie mistakes and inconsistent play. The Jets brought in a guy who absolutely will take the job if Geno isn't ready for it. That's where we are.

If Geno is good in camp the job is his. If he isn't the job is Vicks. What Vick does really doesn't factor into the equation much.

BTW, the last sentence is all about competition. The Jets brought a guy in who will take Geno's job away if Geno isn't good this spring and summer. That's competition.

It's amazing how people turn something so obvious into a conspiracy.

Ftr I am not convinced Vick would be incapable of lasting the whole season. I acknowledge he is at somewhat greater risk than average of not doing so, but I do not think it is a foregone conclusion that he would.
