I understand that people doubt Geno for the most part. His production deserves it. But I don't agree with flat out giving up on him. I look at it this way, we have Geno, and we have Fitzpatrick. When has Fitz had success in the playoffs? We know what we're getting in him. Some consistency and smart decisions, but not much hope for where we want this team to go with the window it has. Geno has been inconsistent, yes. He has been horrible in a lot of situations. But he has also shown flashes. Going into his third year, he has the way higher ceiling than Fitz. We have to hope he can take that next step or at least be relatively improved from last year. With his physical talent and the weapons around him, he may be able to do that. IMO that's our only hope in having a good-great season. I'm not being a Geno apologist by all means. Not like those Sanchez guys. But this is how I see it. I don't really have any hope in this season with Fitz at QB, but I have at least some hope with Geno since he is still somewhat of an unknown going into his third season.
Lol Genos been playing football his entire life....throwing a couple passes to Marshall isn't gonna make him less of a turnover machine. He just isn't good enough to adapt to the next level ....If I'm building a high school football team Genos my guy...If I'm building a NFL team I don't even want Geno in the parking lot
Almost? Many people on this board want him to fail, and the sooner the better. Ultimately, the Jets are pretty unlikely to win the SB next year, so unless they draft the heir apparent, there's no reason not to have a QB competition and let the best player play. Some would argue that Smith should play regardless. To those people I'd say you have a lot more to consider then just Smith. His play has an effect on the entire team. If his play hinders the growth and development of those around him, you can't just let him play to see what you've got. Thankful that this regime has no ties to him, so he and Fitz should get a fair shake. Let the best player play. In the interest of full disclosure, I do not believe that Geno Smith is the answer, but I do believe he will stick around in the league as a career backup. This year might be his chance to prove it.
I have really soured on Geno. Never wanted him to fail but got damn tired of seeing too damn little of improvement and consistent turnovers. If the coaches say he starts than he starts and I'll be rooting for him but I will wish his demise if he continues the bad Geno ways.
Well Demario Davis and Josh Thomas both criticized Rex and his coaches for not preparing the players enough or teaching them, so maybe. Doesn't help how Geno has handled himself but I do think this change could help Geno out. Usually you want stability with your coaches and all but if what two players have said are correct about the team being ill prepared in the training sessions, than this may be a huge blessing in disguise.
One of Rex's weaknesses was not being able to develop a QB. Maybe this new coaching staff will help Geno to improve his craft.
He is doing everything he can to keep improving so he gets A for effort in pre season. That is all. While our expectations are really low, there is nothing better for the Jets than to see him flourish into a bonafide NFL starter. Non withstanding the limitations he brought to the table, not the least of which was the fact that he was not remotly ready to be an NFL starter, he got no favors from the leadership who was stupid enough to put him at the helm. Yes, I do blame the FO for the idiocy of throwing him in the starting role when he wasn't remotly ready and with no weapons to boot. Amazingly stupid, a move that was guaranteed to make him fail. So forgive me if I'm not happy with some that are still trying to give thanks to Idzik and to some extent to Rex. We need to accept that this was a major fuck up on their part that cost them their jobs. Clearly for 2015 we have nothing to gain and everything to loose by hoping for him to fail again. And we should not put all our eggs in Fitz basket. We might need more than that. Along the same lines let this be a painful remainder for those that are remotly thinking of may be starting MM without at least one season holding the clipboard. If we are lucky to get him and do that we have not learned squat.
Where does Davis state this I would like to read that. I love Rex but it does seem like player development was a low priority to him.
I'm really eager for TC to get underway to see Geno get reps in, to see how he differs with the first team squad vs Fitzpatrick.
Umm..... as they should be? He should be trying to work with all of his wide receivers in the off season
When Both the GM and Bowles Spoke about our QB situation they both said " We need a QB who can protect the Ball, Not make mistakes. Ect & Ect " in other words not a very good vote on confidence for Geno. So I would say the Former.
