I'm just saying they have the potential to be as good, or even better. That's all. Obviously we won't know anything until they actually take the field.
Big Ben, Flacco, Jay Cutler, Stafford, Luck, Rivers, Matt Ryan, Newton.. etc. these guys are not game managers. they sling the Rock for the most part to win games as opposed to running a very balanced & conservative attack. Russell Wilson & Alex Smith are game managers. they let their defense win games for the most part. they don't even pass that much. they make a play here & there if needed but for the most part it's a highly conservative, clock eating approach to the game. They aren't trying to throw 50 yrd bombs every 3 plays, they'll get 7 first downs in one drive & score that way.
To be clear the mention of Dilfer is always about how the Ravens won an SB with average or even to some mediocre play from Qb. But my point was that during that year Dilfer played much better than we've ever seen from Smith, and likely never will see from Smith.
I hope that one of the drills that they're working on is one where Marshall reverses field and practices tackling Geno's interception recipients. If Smith is our QB, Brandon will be doing that a lot.
Dilfer wasnt even the starter at the beginning of that season...... He came in to be a game manager for one of the ALL-TIME nastiest defenses. They won games without even scoring an offensive touchdown.
Yea and he threw 12 TDs and 11 picks in 11 games so it's not like he was this storied mistake free game manager like people were trying to say
I remember just before the end of that season, the Jets went into Baltimore and lit up the 'vaulted' Ravens defense at their height. Jets went 5 wide the whole game a racked up over 500 yards (in a loss) that prevented the Ravens from claiming the #1 defense of all time (Chicago). Giants employed that same offense in the SB a month later and got DESTROYED. HAHAHAHA
You know I was wondering....why do some Jets fans get so upset when someone overrates their team? Shouldn't fans get upset when the opposite happens, when someone says bad things about their team? Jets fans seem to like to revel in their misery, crying about how bad their team is, or looking to find faults to complain about. Why is this fan base always trying to sell their team short? ......???.....maybe with all the disappointment we've had in our history, this is their way of keeping expectations low so they are not as disappointed when the team inevitably underachieves?
This might be late, but if Wilson is a game manager, then someone better teach Smith how to manage games ASAP. Maybe a miracle will happen and, between working with Marshall and having Gailey around, Smith will learn how to be a game manager.
The Jets went up 14 to nothing in the first 6 minutes but they got their dicks slapped for the rest of the game and only put up those gaudy stats because they were playing from behind the whole game and had to throw the ball the whole game. Vinny threw 3 picks including a pick 6 and completed 36 of 69 passes. I'm not sure I'd be bragging about that game
yup exactly. But the Jets sucked that year going against the SB favorites and looked good for the first 5 minutes. I remember all the cheering! But indeed, we did get dick slapped. But our yardage total is what prevented them from laying claim to the best D ever. hahahahaha. Rex must a been PISSSSSSED!
LMAO!!! What's wrong with your post, totally wrong at that, is the bold part. We are not trying to SELL anything here. This is not a market. This is a message board. We are sharing opinions, not having a contest to see who can come up with the most hype, or who would make the best used car salesman here. I mean really... Overrating means over, as in being inaccurate. Why approve of being inaccurate? And I can assure you I for one do not revel in misery. but neither do I want to sound like an idiot waving pom poms. But thanks for sharing in case anyone here forgot how homers really feel about the subject.
No, I'm just an optimist, a cup half full type of person. Seems most Jets fans are not. ....I mean, if you can't be optimistic about the team after all the great FA pickups we just got, when CAN you be optimistic?! The word "fan" is short for "fanatic", not for IRS accountant. We are SUPPOSED to "wave the pom poms" lol. If we don't, who will? We're supposed to be the ones making noise at home games, rocking the house even if our team is down and playing the SB champs. Not quietly commiserating among ourselves about why the team is most likely going to lose the game...lol.
