I didn't see any of the movies (just clips) but they wrote the character out. Crazy that he's in the 27 Club. Agree. I own them all and they are my favorite Star Trek movies. What happened to Yelchin was utterly tragic. What a fucking terrible way to go and he was so young.
If you have enjoyed any of the Star Trek universe in your travels I highly recommend seeing the 2009 Star Trek reboot. It's probably the 2nd or 3rd best movie in the realm after Wrath of Khan and Search for Spock. What made it great was all the character portrayals, especially Zachary Quinto and Chris Pine. Zoey Saldana was also amazing as Uhura and all the other supporting characters were very well-played only a bit over-shadowed by Quinto, Pine and Saldana.
'Tread'. I've been meaning to watch this documentary for a while and finally got around to it. It's crazy. Guy develops a grudge against town officials over zoning issues and fines in Granby, CO. He secretly builds a modified armored impenetrable monster tank bulldozer and then starts leveling the town. He keeps getting shot at but it's child's play. The rampage only ends when he gets the bulldozer stuck in a hardware store basement. He had planned all along to kill himself every was done wrecking stuff, especially seeing as nobody could get in (it was sealed shut). He was obviously nuts but there was a method to his madness, alright. Talk about American ingenuity! It's impressive in a sick way. The Total Recall remake. Another Netflix film that turned out to be a lot better than I thought it would. Among other things an amazing performance by Kate Beckinsale who apparently only has one speed at which she is great but man when she's at that speed she way out Arnold's Schwarzenegger.
It is at least as good. Story line is not Mars if that helps in terms of seeing it. I put off seeing it for a long time because I figured I had already seen the story. It took about a minute for me to realize that was not the case. All the actors are good, including Bryan Cranston as Cohagen, however Kate Beckinsale steals the show. Just an amazing performance right in line with her Selene work in the Underworld series.
It's a totally different movie from the original minus a few plot points. It did get a lot of hate when it came out, so I skipped it for years. It was pretty good, even though the ending sort of goes full unrealistic choices by the antagonists to get them killed. It was clearly a very expensive movie to make.
Saw Jackass yesterday. About 10 people in the theater total. I enjoyed it as I do with all of them. I imagine Knoxville is definitely done. He got smoked in one of the last scenes. They went very heavy with the dick stuff but they still did a lot of painful stunts which I actually thought they weren’t going to do. I figured they’d do a lot of crowd menacing stuff with the bad grandpa style shit. Also introduced a bunch of young guys to presumably take the torch to keep the franchise going as the OG’s retire.
HA, a couple of kids I know were going last night.... I told them I saw the original in the theater and they were like "whoa really?!?.. coool" They said Johny got really busted up on said stunt.... as in permanent CTE
They definitely did not need to do one of the scenes at the end. Not going to spoil but it could easily have been an extended scene for the DVD.

I watched Nightmare Alley and The Last Duel this week. They were pretty good. Hey, @Jonathan_Vilma this is a film thread! You sure that counts? Just kidding! I kind of want to see the new Jackass, but I will probably wait to watch it at home. I am actually old enough to remember seeing the first one in theaters. Fun times!
The Batman Director, Matt Reeves, says the new film was influenced by some film classics like Chinatown, The Godfather, Taxi Driver, and Seven. I have actually never seen Seven, but I know the rest are great. I will have to watch that one day soon. I did watch one of Reeves' earlier films, Let Me In, last night and thought it was really good. It is about a little boy who becomes friends with a little girl who is actually a vampire. Pretty interesting story.
You'll like Seven. Drama, suspense with a dash of terror. Very dark movie so its right in your wheelhouse..
Since you have seen The Batman and Seven, do you agree that there are similarities or influences from it in The Batman?
There are no dark crime films that are not influenced by The Godfather, because every writer and director alive today has seen the film. I think Chinatown is almost in that class as well. Popular culture is a living thing and the best parts of pop culture from the previous generation are always lurking in the imaginations of the current generation. I've had to rewrite pieces of works here and there because I suddenly realized that I had inadvertently borrowed from something epic I read or saw in my younger days. In the process of doing that I realize how much the stuff I write depends on what came before me, particularly in the genres I like.
