Two new film reviews: Venom: Let There Be Carnage: Woody Harrelson improved the film from the original. If you liked that, you will like this. Venom and Carnage fighting at the end was cool. The mid-credits scene is really important for future films too. It goes by really fast too. I think it is only 90 minutes long. I always liked the character of Venom, but he does not really work well alone. Much better when it is Venom vs Spider-Man like in the comics. I'd probably give it a C-. The Many Saints of Newark: The Sopranos prequel we did not know we needed! I am a big Sopranos fan, so I really enjoyed this film. The cast does a great job. The story is not too complicated, as I guess they did not want to do anything that would alter the show. Michael Gandolfini does a great job as Tony. It was wild how much he looked and acted like his father. My one complaint would be the film does not stand on it's own at all. If you had not watched the The Sopranos or know the references, I can only assume you would be bored and confused the whole time. Overall, I enjoyed it. Makes me wonder if they will continue making prequels of the show now as they could do so many things if they wanted to.
I actually was really disappointed with The Many Saints of Newark. There was no real plot. Familiar characters showed up but nothing really came from it. Watching it you would have thought there was no source material. So much they could have drawn from the show and for some reason Chase chose not too. Tony and Liv got some screen play but felt like nothingness. A big part of the sopranos was Tony panic attacks. Had a chance to explore that instead of having him just be a puppy dog begging for attention the entire movie. Dickie the center point ok but why not incorporate his substances problems? Christopher talked about it on the show. Why make his story about a woman no one knows? Didn't remotely care. The Harold stuff didn't care. Just felt so disjointed!
The Duel with Dennis Weaver. Spielberg is a hack, but that movie always freaked me out. WABC used to make films to combat Hollywood. Movie of the Week. There's a ton of them in syndication.
Saw "No time to die" yesterday. Nice way to end Daniel Craig's run as James Bond. Yes, its over folks. Kinda reminded me a bit of the end of "End Game". Typical Bond movie with gadgets and really nice cars. Women for once stayed in their clothes and Bond wasn't banging every skirt. Long movie so go in expecting over 2 hrs of entertainment. Plot was enough to keep your interest in the movie. Some scenes will remind you of older Bond movies. "You Only Live Twice" and "Dr. No" come to mind. You'll find a completely human James Bond as well. Not the swaggerlicious Secret Agent from yesteryear. The old gang at MI 6 are all back in this one too and of course, the enigmatic Felix Leiter comes thru for a cup of coffee. All in all, worth the price of admission if you're a Bond fan. Nice way to say so long to a franchise that a lot of us grew up with..
They'll resurrect the franchise with a half Asian half African woman playing the main role. Jaimes Bond. Just watch.

I get feeling that way if you had super high expectations. I did not, so I just enjoyed it for what it was. I did not treat it like a true feature film either. Just a Sopranos prequel. The best part of watching The Many Saints of Newark was it reminded me how much I enjoyed The Sopranos. I began re-watching it after. I am almost done Season 1 already. The show holds up nicely! Good review of it, @Cman65! I agree. No Time To Die was the most fun I have had at the movies in awhile. Great action set pieces. Daniel Craig was great. Rami Malek too. I wish Safin had more screen time but can't complain too much. I think I would rank No Time To Die in the middle of Daniel Craig's Bond films. 1. SkyFall 2. Casino Royale 3. No Time To Die 4. SPECTRE 5. Quantum of Solace Craig is my favorite Bond, but that is because I really did not get into those films until I saw Casino Royale. Connery did a great job in his films. I liked Golden Eye with Pierce Brosnan too, but SkyFall is my favorite Bond film.
Sean Connery is the Bond I grew up with so I measure everybody against him. Only Craig has matched up well in that way. The problem with most of the Bonds is that they had no low-life thug in them. Bond is an assassin and one who enjoys his work. Can't do that and be just the good soldier which is what virtually everybody other than Connery and Craig has tried to do.
The Titan is definitely worth a look-see on Netflix. It's an interesting thought experiment on deep space colonization and what it might take to get there. Do *not* watch if you have any PTSD about your military service or the military in general.
I'm not sure if this was posted here or not (too stupid to find it) but 'Val' (documentary) on Val Kilmer. I pirated it, what else. We creative people . . . we're like a band of thieves in our way. Damn, what a sad watch. He's not gonna be around for long. It wouldn't surprise me if he puts I'm your Huckleberry on his Tombstone. Heh.
Dune. Was very impressive visually with a couple of decent set pieces to brighten up what is a pretty slow first chapter generally. It's going to piss off some fans of the book no doubt and probably confuse the hell out of a few people who haven't come across the material before - there's no movie shorthand for spice, the fremen, Bene Gesserit etc so everything's got to be explained from scratch. It's a decent effort at what is a big and complicated book and seems relatively true to it (admittedly it's been a good while since I last read it). A vast improvement on the previous movie effort for sure. Jason Momoa makes a good Duncan Idaho.
The books are better paced for a streaming series, not a series of movies. I've heard good things about it though, going to see it at IMAX.
