My problem isn't so much with Gates, I just think there are other more useful players out there who could help out our rookie QB. I don't want to keep bringing up Braylon because his play has diminished since 2010 but I think a veteran receiver like him or Brandon Lloyd would do Geno Smith much more good then a Clyde Gates. I don't expect Edwards or Lloyd to come in here and light it up or anything but I think either one could be a sure handed veteran option for a rookie QB to lean on a little more than a burner whose an average route runner at best and has an issue with drops. If Gates is some kind of special teams ace then I could understand his value to the team. But kickoff returns are being phased out anyway.
Kindly direct your attention to the Patriots, Raiders, SD, Jaguars and the Niners (if Bolden goes down, they are screwed), and Panthers (Smify and _____). They are all in need of WR depth just like us.
geez the thing that bugs me about the last draft is not taking one of those receivers in rounds 2 or 3..... of course dobson looks like a lost puppy out there but hopkins is killing it for houston. hurts watching gates and hill drop the rock.
Houston taking Hopkins in round 1 looked like a reach at the time, but it sure doesn't look that way now. Woods (round 2) looks like a player too.
There are so many top WR's available next season I will be stunned if we don't sign atleast 2, We should try Gates at Kick returns he's great at it in Madden 25 lol 5 tds in one season , even in the game he drops passes wide open ones so I moved him to kick returns, he does have great speed
Ill give you the Pats but not the others Would you rather take Hill, Holmes and JK over the following? OAK- Moore, Streeter, and Ford SD- Floyd, Royal, and Brown...with Keenan Allen as the 4 Jack- Shorts, Blackman, and Ace Sanders (I may give you this one as well, but close) 49ers- Boldin, Williams and Baldwin are more thalented than what the Jets have, and their running game combined with VD makes the recievers less of a focal point. Either way the Jets have a bottem 2 WR core, pretty pathetic.
Absolutely agree with this. The guy's awful and should have never been brought in. Miami, who was also looking for WR depth at the time cut him. That should say something, no? Well, I guess to the Jets it meant nothing, which is why we are in the predicament. There's no reason why we haven't signed Cribbs or someone to return punts/kicks because Wilson is awful, too.
4th/5th WR's? These bums should not even be in the NFL. Arena is more like it. We had massaqui . We should have kept him or just signed a VET. This looks like a tank job that izdik is pulling by not making any moves.
We have the youngest receiving core in the NFL (with one vet who's running routs on a broken foot). Give it time.
If he drops a score hes done after the game. But then that leaves the question who we put in his place. Cromartie ?
Is Gates also on the punt/kickoff coverage teams? If he does then his value is as a utility player. You can only carry so many Kellen Winslow type veterans, at some point you need bodies for practice and special teams.
Unless he is a gunner (which I don't believe he is, but I could be wrong) I dont see his value that much even on ST. Maybe if he was a dynamic punt returner. Kick returns are becoming a thing of the past now sadly.
If we got 2 WRs in the first two rounds, I think that would be fantastic (assuming that they were not reaches). The WR corps has been underpowered for a long time and I think that needs to be fixed if the Jets are going to be a competitive team.
I don't understand the Stephen Hill hate. Yes he drops passes, but we've seen in the past that can be corrected. I don't think anybody can say he isn't talented and doesn't possess big play ability. The guy is 6'4 and can fly. I understand could of, should of, would of, but if the guy didn't drop that pass at the end of the Jets-Pats game he has 5 catches for 100+ yards that night. He's a work in progress, but I think he is clearly developing. Sometimes it takes receivers a while before they break out. Roddy White is a great example.
the ball hit him in the hands...he didn't catch it? What is that called? when edwards or hill does it it's called a drop...so spadola is being graded on the curve?
