They weren't selling nationally before. They were selling locally. Now that all this stuff is sold to the wider community over the internet and via a bunch of cable channels the rules have changed.

In 1983 the media was selling into a 40% Jets 60% Giants market. Now they're selling into a 4% Jets 96% Not Jets market.

This is fixable. Woody Johnson has taken the first step in fixing it by bringing in a low-key guy who has his eyes on both the details and the long-term plan at GM. Now it's just weathering the storm before the results start to roll in.

Mehta is with the New York Daily News. The Post is actually the least ridiculous, they're a little negative but the NYDN has turned into a freakin rag.

Listen Mehta, it's not the Jets who profiles you in airports. Just report facts. It's not that hard, or is it?

The media is Hellbent on tearing this team down, and I don't know how you change it.

Amazed at the Bust label before he has even suited up. There a lot of people posing as Jet fans on this site.

I have not watched enough of Geno to form an opinion on whether I think he is good or not. I want every player to be good that the Jets draft and will not bash him for the sake of bashing or being right.

As far as his attitude I really don't give a shit if he is an ass. A lot of great Qbs are arrogant assholes Marino and Elway for starters. Look at Big Ben really humble that one.

This can be a concern if Geno thinks he has already arrived but I highly doubt that is the case he is juts a kid getting beat up by the NY media. He will ultimately be judged by his performance but lets hope this kid does not break prior to getting a really chance. (Ala Ryan Leaf)

Lets as fans not term him a bust if he has a bad game. The best thing for his career (IMHO) is to sit a year and watch and learn. The only way he starts this year if he honestly and truly beats out the other two QBs.

No matter what in the end the clueless media will be right!!

    Success:
"This is exactly what we thought he would be and why we said he was the steal of the draft"

    Failure:
"We called it from day one. He was a problem and will always be what we thought he would be, useless"

Ben Roethlisberger is a pretty big ass...

He also is a good NFL QB, so Pittsburgh Steelers fans don't care what kind of person he is.
Why are these non-stories getting so much attention, especially when its regarding a 2nd round pick. This is a round that we once used on a kicker.

Negativity sells, just look at this board. I find it comical a fanbase that is so negative is complaining about negativity in the media. You guys feed off this stuff. It's NY, there's more attention here than most places. It's part of his job description, he either has to learnt o handle it or he will be the next guy the fans are booing and wanting to replace.

Quoted for Truth. The ridiculous amount of negativity is why I don't post so much anymore.

the other guy is criticized for frustrating play and on field mistakes a 4 year vet shouldn't make.

Smith hasn't earned being hated on, he's just a product of jets bias.

Cam Newton didn't have a ton of negativity 2 years ago? was that Jets bias? every year there are guys draft experts think are overrated or teams float out rumors on. This would have happened anywhere for Geno.

The great thing is all Geno has to do is focus on his job and play well and all this nonsense disappears.

Geno's twitter post right before the draft was stupid. Nobody forced him to do that.

To some extent he has brought this on himself.

Matt Barkley would have easily gone in the 1st round had he skipped his senior year at USC. Yet you don't see him lashing out at the Mike Mayocks of the world as the reason his draft stock plummeted.

The media didn't get enough vitriol and attention from fans when Kellen Clemens shit the bed, because he was a second round QB, and because of that, expectations weren't that high.

Now they are giving a second round QB first round treatment so they can trash him like a first rounder every time he falters.

None of this has anything to do with Geno Smith. It has everything to do with internet hits and copy sold.

Actually Geno has brought a lot of this upon himself, but no it doesn't help the fact that he jumped into a QB media circus. His pouting on draft day wanting to take his ball and go home only highlights his immaturity and brings more than it should. The firing of his agent, whether coincidental or not, doesn't look good... The texting and playing in his phone didn't start till he showed his ass in draft day. Comments wouldn't be made how EJ Manuel was a much more respectable draftee. Maybe somewhere else he wouldn't get this publicity, but this NY... Get used to it
