If Smith is on the board at 9,the Jets HAVE to take him.

SackElroy is not an NFL QB. I think Sanchez is awful but I'd honestly rather see him out there than a guy who is more timid and has a weaker arm than Pennington. I'd almost rather see #15. Hopefully someone else gets thrown in the mix but it's starting to look like that won't be the case unless we draft someone.

I think that timidness came from starting in an NFL game for the first time in his life. FWIW, he seemed poised against Arizona.

I wouldn't mind seeing McElroy over Sanchez. If he sucks, he sucks. If he doesn't, excellent. Nothing could go wrong.

Our boy Elroy had a quicker release than Sancho and a better pocket presence.

But that's not saying much because, I would take a guy off the street before ever wanting to see Sancho behind center again.

Writeup from rotoworld, looks like it's only a one year guarantee:

Cardinals acquired QB Carson Palmer and a 2013 seventh-round pick from the Raiders in exchange for a 2013 sixth-round pick and a conditional seventh-round pick in 2014.

In this year's draft, Oakland gets a 43-spot jump from pick No. 219 to 176. The Raiders get the 2014 pick only if Palmer starts 13 games in 2013. In other words, it's just short of a giveaway. Palmer has agreed to a new two-year, $16 million contract with $10 million guaranteed. It locks him in as the 2013 starter, but includes no guaranteed money beyond this season.

In theory, Palmer is a good fit for Bruce Arians' vertical attack, but his nonexistent mobility will be a liability behind one of the league's worst offensive lines. The Cardinals will now almost certainly spend the No. 7 pick on a tackle. Larry Fitzgerald will be the best receiver he's ever thrown to, but Palmer is going to have a hard time earning QB1 status in fantasy leagues. The 33-year-old Palmer's desire is a question mark after he essentially quit on two teams in three years.

Jesus, imagine if that happens early in the first quarter of the home opener? Haha, you're right it would get...really ugly...

I think they cut Sanchez if they draft Smith. I don't know the ins and outs of the cap hit on Sanchez, but I think from what other people are posting that we would take the whole hit this year if we cut him before June 1. Might as well get it done and over with and spend this year in cap purgatory.

The flip side would be drafting Smith and then sitting him until Sanchez starts stinking it up, just so the fans don't eat Smith alive if he sucks too.

I would've given up a 6th round pick for Palmer but I'm pretty sure we couldn't have afforded him anyways

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap10...g-in-carson-palmer-trade-between-cardsraiders <-- article came out on April 1st but I think it's a legit article.

General vibe I'm reading elsewhere is that the snag/holdup is Palmer refusing to restructure. If that's the case then Jets were destined to be a non-factor in Palmer talks.

My guess is that Palmer is gonna be a PITA to get released so Bucs can pick him up. Or that he's only willing to restructure with the Bucs. What's the point of forcing yourself off the Raiders to wind up on the Cardinals? If the Cardinals don't seriously upgrade their OL, it's only a matter of time till defenses knock him out for the season.

One of the reasons I am opposed to getting Smith or any other Qb in this draft is because the Jets either throw a rookie in there, or there is a substantial risk Sanchez gets significant playing time. I would feel MUCH better about this if I had more confidence in Garrard being healthy. But that's part of the problem, because I don't.

So, do they throw a rookie in there, or play Muck?

Throwing a rookie in there was bad enough when you had the 09 Jets.* This iteration? Could get ugly. Do you really want to do that?

But since all the vet Qb prospects (other than Multiple Medical Procedures Man Garrard, of course) were not even attempted to be gotten by the Jets, I concede the remaining options are looking ugly.

    * Of course some might answer on this point that the 09 Jets worked out pretty welll. Well, aside from the fact that there's no chance that this team will be much like htat one, many feel that taking that approach with Muck did not work out for him in the medium to long term. And I am not prepared to argue agaisnt those people. So there's that, too.

Sorry...but there are NO QBs in this year's draft that scream FRANCHISE!!!!!!! There isn't a single QB in this year's draft that would have gone higher than the 4th round last year.

There are no QBs that Idzik can draft (this year) that are even remotely better than Sanchez. None. Zero. Zippo. Denada. Hell, even Tebow could beat out all 5 out of 5 on his worst day.

If 2013 is the year you're hoping to tag a franchise QB, you better hope to snag another Tom Brady in the 6th round.

Ridiculous. You can't predict the future nor can you predict some alternative reality. You can have an opinion about drafting a qb this year, but stop it with the hyperbole.

thats why you develop a guy with the tools to be a franchise guy like

    <----------this guy

and help him grow into that role

I could see myself betting a buck or two that this will happen on his first long 20+ yrd pass, into triple coverage.

And FWIW, I'm excited for this season to see how all this plays out.
Quietly hoping to see McElroy getting a proper shot in a MM WCO offense.
    If it works? Nice.
If it doesn't? Then we know for sure and can cut #14 for good.

    Win-win.
Anything is better than having to see the declining Tannenbum '12 Jets again.

We should bring in Vince Young he woulda been a better option then David Garrard, he has a winning record and is only 29, i was listening to a interview with him today and it sounds liek he has matured alot and just wants another shot whether as a backup or starter. Why havent we looked at him
