Yeah I might be a bit harsh on them, but I wasn't a big fan. I thought it started off really well and went downhill fast. It's an entertaining show, I mean I watched both 2 seasons so it has that going for it. But there are a lot of dumb people in my opinion which held it back in my opinion
And I thought I was the only one...definitely an entertaining show but you're right the people act stupid and some of Spacey's one liners are corny and they act like the viewer is stupid. Instead of just realizing we get it they have him look into the camera and beat us over the head with it. Yeah, I get it, he treats the ribs like he treats his enemies lol. For me, the greatest shows of all time: 1a. The Shield 1b. The Sopranos 1c. Breaking Bad 2. The Wire 3. Mad Men 4. Six Feet Under I can't really put Game of Thrones on there since it is based off of books, especially since they are much better. Other shows that are ok but flawed are Sons of Anarchy, Dexter. True Detective was excellent but gotta give it more than one season. I've watched a season of Homeland which is good but not quite great. I feel like I'm forgetting some too. Deadwood was good but I didn't know wtf was going on half the time. OZ was alright but pretty unrealistic and both of those shows didn't have real endings.
Those are the top ones I think. Homeland season 1 is one of the greatest TV seasons I remember watching. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time and even held my breath at some scenes. After that, the show kind of got lost, but season 1 is incredible.
I may have shortchanged Homeland a bit. The episode with Carrie and Brody at the cabin was amazing. The only thing that took it down for me was I found the ending of season 1 a little corny but I know they had to do it that way.
Sure seems like the Sopranos is the overrated show and not the Wire from reading this thread. If you want to say it's important because it was the first big non network show fine, but one of the best shows ever? Come on.
For it's time, it was the best show on TV, if it aired now, you're right, it wouldn't measure up. But you could say the same thing for the Honeymooners and All In The Family even though they were groundbreaking shows.
At first maybe, although I think Oz hadn't descended into ridiculousness at that point yet. I have no problem saying that its immense popularity paved the way for great shows to get a shot, but to me it doesn't compare favorably to shows that came out even a couple years after it started.
I still think it is great, even watching random episodes as they air on HBO now. People are sour on it due to the uneven final season but the show has a ton of epic moments and the use of themes and foreshadowing throughout was groundbreaking.
Oz was a show about a terribly degenerate prison population living in a squeaky clean environment with almost no supervision. The whole premise for the show was ridiculous.
The shows I'm watching now (or have currently watched that are on hiatus): Hannibal The Blacklist Veep Rake Archer Legit GoT American Horror Story Rake is getting cancelled which is too bad, pretty funny show with Greg Kinnear. Hannibal COULD be getting cancelled which is a shame, such a well written and intelligent show. _
No love for the BRILLIANT 'House of Cards'. Kevin Spacey is absolutely made for this role. Much better than the British version too
I've never seen it. My brother (who's opinion I regard highly) absolutely loves the show. We're going to watch it this summer when everything else is on hiatus. Looking forward to it. _
I don't usually like political type shows, but House of Cards is definitely worth the watch and it gets better as it goes on.
No episode over the weekend, due to the long weekend. BTW no love for Jack Bauer? Season 4 was one of the best seasons I have seen on tv.
Agreed. 24 is one of my top shows of all time and for some reason I've always thought the odd number seasons were the best, but 1, 3, 4, and 5 were the best seasons IMO. The others were all still very good except maybe 6. I'm surprised 24 is not in more people's top 5s. Sopranos, Lost, 24, Breaking Bad and Dexter. I could watch any episode from any season of those shows and still love it. Star Trek DS9 should get more love as well as the 2nd half of Voyager.
24 is my favorite show ever and season 4 the best season, agreed. The wife and I just started a rewatch of 24 and even the second time around it still kicks ass.
