Just another ploy Rex is using to try and motivate Gholston. I say you can't get blood from a turnip. It may look red but far from the real thing. When Gholston's contract is up he will be gone. Only reason he will be arouns that long is no way any team would trade for him. When Pace gets back Vernon will once again be riding the pine.
JTurds is getting owned in this thread.. Gholston also had the pressure that forced Collins into the more or less game clinching INT by Harris. Gholston obviously isn't at the level we all hope he will be but he is clearly improving which is better then nothing.
Not really. Watch the play again and it was really Pouha that was applying the big pressure. as VG was coming from the outside he still didn't get quite close enough.
I'm still not that high on Baby Steps Gholston, but he made a few nice plays on Sunday. I still think he will get his first career sack in week 6 against the Bills.
Nobody is getting doubled in this picture, and that's not a hold at this point. But stay on his nuts because he did one noticeable thing. I will wait until I see a consistent performer worthy of his draft position.
That's because the guy DTing him broke off to pick up another man. He is clearly being DT'd in this shot:
No he's not. Crumpler isn't even touching him. He was jammed by Crumpler at the beginning of the play, you can see that in the first pic. Then Crumpler does downfield to find another block...
You might want to try looking at the live-action instead of picking apart stills, Jturds. He was double-teamed on that play.
OK - you saw the video, even rewound it, and said you didn't see the double team. I showed you a still frame of the blockers engaging him and you still don't want to believe it. He was double teamed whether you want to admit it or not. Just because you want to hate the guy doesn't mean you should pretend not to see the truth. Of course he isn't. It's 2 seconds after the initial double team started and the first guy left the double to block someone else. At this point in the play Johnson has already schooled the entire defense - the blockers didn't even know he was going outside. I'm hardly "on his nuts". I'm showing you the truth and you are refusing to accept it. Maybe you should stick with hockey, eh?
i usually just read this board but i had to sign up cause this gholston bashing is rediculous ... i watched the replay last night and he was clearly double teamed ... and if you look at the stills, it was actually revis who lost contain and bit on johnsons cutback but i forgot, revis christ can do no wrong and gholston is the devil
I agree, I can't understand how anyone cannot see the double team, I don't even need a replay and I still remember it as Johnson was running right by that block. Gholston had to get off the block, turn around and run down Johnson from behind. No matter that the corner delayed his forward progress slightly, Johnson can cut and burn on a dime. But I agree with the poster that said no matter what Vernon does, people still hate. He is improving and it is good to see. He is getting some pressure on the QB, and Ryan says he is making strides. I will take Ryan's word for it as he does not seem like the kind of coach to blow smoke for no reason.
And then there are the people that do nothing but bitch about the people constantly bitching about something. Those are the people that add the least to the forum in terms of debate.
Not sure if anybody heard the post-game conference or the press conference the day after the game. Rex was running a lot of zone coverages and rushing 3-4 because he wanted to run a lot of containment plays. He wanted to at least limit the amount of yards Johnson got on the ground by taking away the outside. Of course, when it came down to the 4th quarter, he decided to apply the pressure on Collins and attacked. Point is, he wanted to keep Johnson between the tackles in hopes that the ILB's and S's would make a play. Having said that, I'm hearing that people are still waiting for him to get a sack. Which would be wonderful if he did. However, I've noticed that Rex has Gholston playing DE a lot in 3-4/4-3 formations. I've seen him collapse a pocket a numerous amount of times, which is a huge improvement from last year. I think you might see him get even better with Calvin Pace back in the lineup.
