yeah, but they continued to make the playoffs by winning the division over the Sox. The series losses IMO were due to the better team winning.

You're telling me that Red-Sox fans and Mets fans don't unite for the purpose of bashing the yankees? That was the very fabric of the GYC

The 2004 loss has nothing to do with 2005 or 2006. In 2005 the Yankees lost because IMO Randy Johnson came out in game 3 and got his ass kicked and he wasnt even on the 2004 team. They were also facing the Angels and they never beat them anyway. In 2006 the Yankees had a hurt Randy Johnson and Jaret Wright(also not on the 2004 team) starting games 3 and 4. Those games were over before it started. Starting pitching has hurt the Yankees the past 2 years IMO. Has A-Rod struggled in the playoffs the past 2 years? Sure, but its a team effort in the end.

I can't buy that arguement, I think if you polled a group of baseball fans taht didn't root for the Tigers or Yankees last year they'd tell you the Yankees are a superior team. The Tigers had a young pitching staff and a major choke artist in Kenny Rogers. The Yanks shoulda killed them.

The Angels would have been more believable if they didn't get killed by the White Sox who the Yankees would have killed. I'll give you that one though because they do seem to kick your asses in the playoffs.

It could be bigger, I can't disagree. It was the only time a team fell after being up 3-0 too which is the one thing that I think may push it over the top.

Interesting where the voting lines cut on this one. But it really isn't even a reasonable question. GYC shocked the WORLD, and will be pointed to by grandkids OF grandkids as the most tragic sports collapse ever.

To say they haven't recovered must mean you just flat out expect the Yankees to win the world series every year. What else could it mean? They have been in the playoffs every year for the past 13 but even the Yankees, as great as they have been, can't win them all.

The thing is that Yankee fans got over it much faster then you did. Why? Because we were in the playoffs again the following year. We know we will always put a good team on the field. It's not a once in a lifetime thing where if we don't win this one series we may never be back again. Just look at this year. 53 games were started by rookie pitchers this year, only 1 who is still with the club (Hughes) and he had maybe 7 or 8. Yet they still clawed back to make the playoffs. Do you really think any other team could have done that?

GYC is more memorable, as for years it will be "there has only been one team to come back from a 3-0 deficit, the 2004 Boston Red Sox, to break the curse." But GMC is the bigger collapse easily.

the story will have to include just how pathetic the Boston Red Sox were for nearly 100 years,as that is why 2004 will be a memorable story to some.

I'd say collectively there is more hatred on that show towards the Mets than the Yankees. Fatcessa would let Steinbrenner fuck him in between his crevices if he had the oppurtunity.

    True on Mike...

But Russo hates the Yankees more than the Mets...It isn't even close. He just makes fun of the Mets, but he HATES AND makes fun of the Yankees.

That's actually true, even though you were just taking a gratuitous shot at the Red Sox. The Yankees OWNED the Sox up until '04. They dominated them. As Yogi Berra said to Bernie Williams, "Relax. We've been beating these guys for 80 years. They're never gonna beat us". With the Yankees up 3-0, the momentum, and the mental edge, there is no reason for them to have lost that series, none. That series changed the relationship between the two teams in a monumental way, and was completely and utterly unprecedented. The same can not be said of the GMC.

^^ And how many times did Yogi's Yankees have to beat the Red Sox in a seven game elimination series? Its a lot harder to win it all now.

...What does that have to do with anything? It's the same level of difficulty for both teams...

Of course your correct. I was referring to this bullshit about how the players have been psychically scarred by the GYC and "losing" the curse over the Sox which thus explains why the Yanks haven't advanced past the ALDS since. Total horseshit.

That said, it WAS a worse collapse. Nobody but Met fans will ever remember the GMC. Nobody else cares.
