I'm not sure why more folks don't get this. It wasn't about making Mark feel loved, it was about cap space and moving around guaranteed money. _
If the Bills want to pay Iupati, he's theres. Iupati would want to reunite with Greg Roman in the offensive scheme that has made him a perennial pro bowler. The only question is if the Bills' brass will want to pay top money for a guard. The last few years they had the philosophy that you can find guards anywhere, but I'm not sure if that was Marrone. After adding Incognitio, Rex said definitively "we are adding one more" and it sounded like he already knows who that guy is. The only one I can think of would be Roman's Iupati.
Are we set at 3-4? what's Coples role? I don't know if we're gonna need one replacement or two anymore… what if we had some weird hybrid where IK started WOLB, and Coples started 4-3 DE depending on the matchup? OLB confuses the hell out of me right now… I haven't the faintest clue what we're gonna do, and that the top 6 looks like it could give us a blue chip OLB complicates things more….
Yeah, that was the only other guy that either Rex or Roman would know, I just don't see it has him. Could be, but I dont see him as a better option than the guys currently on the team (Urbik, Kouandjio).
I wouldn't mind this at all. You know, this offseason is feeling a lot like 2009. This season is all gonna depend on the QB, obviously, but with the amount of money we have and with an entire new Front Office and Scouting Department, I can really see us surprising the shit out of people and making the playoffs. Now obviously, we have to see how it plays out in free agency and the draft but with the right moves, we can make some noise. Upgraded corners, a pass rush, upgraded offensive line, and another playmaker. Im excited to see what this coaching staff puts together.
I think that Bowles will show some multiple fronts, but will primarily use the 3-4, but could be wrong about that. I've never thought Coples was a 3-4 OLB. I think he's playing out of position. It will be interesting to see what Bowles thinks of Coples and how he uses him. I wouldn't be opposed to their trading him unless they're planning on playing a lot more 4-man fronts, and even then I think his best position is DT, and he's not going to replace Snacks, Ellis, Mo Wilk or Richardson in the starting lineup. I basically think he was a wasted pick.
Todd Herremans is getting cut by the Eagles. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/02/26/eagles-to-cut-todd-herremans/ He's a bit older but he's been a great player previous years. I don't think he'd be a terrible option if we can't get to Boling
The Jets should have traded him last offseason to a 4-3 team, and maybe they still should, he's just a terrible fit where he is.
It'll be interesting to see how Bowles handles Coples. I don't know necessarily that he's a bad fit at 3-4. I liken him to Bryan Thomas. A guy drafted for one reason but ending up in a different role with a different set of strengths: Strong side edge protector. In that role he could be a useful player. Bring in another guy on the other side in the draft or FA for the future. Thomas was drafted to be a 4-3 pass rushing DE. But over time he proved to be a fantastic run stopping player. But 4-3 DE would seem to be his best spot still. We'll know everything we need to know about him soon enough. I'm looking forward to see how Bowles uses a few of these guys and how he handles them, in contrast to Rex. I envision Bowles being tough on them.
Jackson has not up til now made a big name for himself around the league, but from what i have read about him, he sounds like he should be the guy the Jets should go after for Cb. Confirming that Wilson is a goner and with the recent news about Milliner being questionable coming back from the acl tear, the Jets will need two, and after Jackson I would love to see Cro come back. I say Jackson first because he can probably fill the #1 cb position nicely, and at this point Cro would be better as the #2 cb. Cro I also like for his veteran presence. People make fun of his domestic arrangements. But I have always found him a perceptive and smart guy who is a good influence on the younger players. He might even have a future in coaching.
Coples is a bad fit at 3-4 OLB. Rex Ryan promised Coples we'd drafted him. He's been misused from the day he got here. He should be dangled out there as trade bait.
It's gonna be interesting to see how they handle the pieces we have in the front 7. I don't know what Rex said to him or how Rex originally intended to use Coples. I believe as a 3-4 DE, and Rex moved him to fit in Richardson. I think we'll see some tweaking, and some change is gonna come. Why Rex would make promises to him and draft him only to 'misuse' him is another story. I'm really looking forward to see how Bowles restructures everything. How do we know that Bowles will misuse him or not find a better role for him. I think this the last year of Coples contract too. There's a lot going into how Mac and Bowles are gonna go into the future
I like Coples. He's a disruptive player who's in the backfield a good amount of the time. He also tends to hit like a ton of bricks. He's no Lawrence Taylor but I am confident Bowles will see to it that his talents are used to our advantage.
He would be much more effective if the Jets can find a speed rusher to pair up with him. Coples should be used to set the edge in the running game and jam TEs in the passing game.
Harvin does not get behind corners. He may beat them in a YAC situation. He just does not run refined routes.
In a perfect world we would get high paying positions through the draft (like MoWilk and Richardson) and pay practically zero for those positions for 5 years. FA is great for 2nd and 3rd tier players all teams need, but superstars needs to be home grown and free for the first 5 years. One exception would be O-Lineman. These guys take 2-3 years to develop and when one does and he hits FA, grab him (like Faneca and Mawae). QBs, pass rushers, shut down corners, they key superstars on any team, you roll the dice in the draft whenever possible. But picking up a huge 2nd contract for a superstar mean you missed out completely on the same talent on his 4-5 yr rookie deal.
