Woody has stated why we're looking for pairings. The GM and coach need to be on the same page. One of the reasons as went 4-12 this year was because Idzik and Rex were one two completely different pages as to where they wanted the team and how they were going to get there. You can find a complementary HC and GM without sacrificing one. It just takes additional effort when interviewing to think about how they will relate and work together.
I agree a GM and HC need to be on the same page. That was the biggest problem this year, Rex was on a win now mentality and Idzik was on a rebuild timeline. But that doesn't mean they need to be hire in "pairs" -- if Bowles is your guy, you hire Bowles and then find the right guy to work with him. We keep hearing different pairings, this coach and this GM, but not this coach with this GM, that GM or this GM. I am sure you can find more than 1 GM that would work with Bowles ( or your desired coach) or more than 1 coach to work with Grier (or your top GM).
Gotcha. Personally I think either method can work, because ultimately you're trying to do the same thing whether you use pairs or choose a HC and find a suitable GM (or vice versa). But I understand what you mean.
Yeah, I am not sure what a Jet Fans are looking at BUT the Big Tuna is not coming to the Jets again ( Joking ) so I see these two as a pretty good team.
