He was cut for showing up late to meetings. He also was never a good punt returner, in fact he sucked giant goat balls at returning punts.
If i remember correctly Miller on his first run with the team muffed 2 punts agains BAL back in the Herm Edwards days. Liked him as a KR never trusted him as a PR. My vote is for leonhard, the guy never fumbles. Cotch is pretty sure handed but does give you much in return yardage.
Cotchery averaged 10.9 yards per return. He was ninth in the NFL amongst WRs that returned kicks...not too bad.
How could you possibly know that junc? Why wouldn't they just say he's too slow now if that were the case?
There were already rumblings long before he got cut. Remember he was decativated a game before he ever missed a meeting.
YES. I don't know what the deal is with Lowery on punt returns. The first game of his professional career, that preseason game against the Browns, Lowery took one to the house. One punt, one touchdown. He's never fielded a punt in the regular season. I just can't figure it out. Maybe one of you camp-niks knows? Did he muff every single punt in training camp? Does Westy just not like him as a person?
...or Mike Battle perhaps? Seriously though, I would like it to be a non-starter. I live in fear of Cotch or Leonard getting hurt on a friggin punt return. If Lowery can do it well, I guess I would be okay with that, but ideally I would like it to be Cole, or some rookie buried deep on the depth chart but fast as hell.
I seem to remember him fumbling a kickoff return (maybe even two) last year and was quickly deeled a risk in the return game. I wouldn't swear to it though.
Leonard is definitely pretty good at punt returning, but risking our starting safetys health especially with potential depth issues (if we draft a rookie FS) seems rather well risky.
Rather see him do that than taking a bunch of stupid fucking spins or muffing punts because hes worried about getting hit. Not ideal but a good decision maker back there and definetly a good insurance policy if anyone goes down.
What about Cromartie ? I dont remember anything about him in college, but he used to do special teams and played some wideout. If he ends up being demoted to a #3 corner I would see no issue with making him a special teams guy, hes definitely got the speed.
Around the time he was cut, he was "tweeting" all about going out and partying. Screw him! Let's move forward, not back.
We just traded for him partly because the last guy was always injured. Why put him in a situation where he is at more of a risk to get injured?
