Maybe we trade down and will get like a 20 pick but gain a 2nd rd pick. That will give NYJ 2 2nd's and 2 3rd's. Add a possible Richardson trade and that could make 1 1st rd pick, 2 2nd rd picks and 3 3rd rd picks. Sounds too easy but that would give NYJ 6 picks in the first 3 rounds. Is this dreaming?
You don't win any prizes for having the most draft picks. Drafts picks only represent potential not actual value. Given how often teams miss - especially the Jets - means you can't count on them reproducing their college success and building on it. And the farther you drop in the round, the more chance of missing. Yes, the Jets need LOTS of help, but they desperately need IMPACT players. I'd rather they found 4-5 true difference makers than 10-12 middle of the road prospects. I'm not saying they shouldn't trade down, but if they do, they shouldn't drop past the #14 pick at the outside.
On the downside he may have a better paying job than FQB waiting for him after he graduates, at a hedge fund somewhere.
I don't believe that's dreaming. I believe the scenario is well within the realm of possibility? It's also a very logical approach given the current state of the team. But I do think we'd get more than a 2nd rounder if he Jets traded down from 6 to 20.
14 spots is a lot, those are some good players that will be taken by the time the 20th pick comes around. Solomon Thomas, Ryan Ramczyck, Cam, 3 of the QBs might be gone, Mike Williams, Foster, Garret, Cook, Fournette, Adams..etc 6 to 12, maybe 14th as another poster said, but 20th, I'm gonna have to disagree with such a big drop.
I was just watching NFL network and Mayock's latest mock draft has Cam Robinson and OJ Howard going 26 and 30 respectively. Now Ramczyk would likely be off the board by 20, but still two very good players should be there even if e traded down from 6 to 20.
It's not that you can't get ANY decent players at 20, but that you can have a lot more to choose from, and higher chance of connecting the higher you draft. If it were me I wouldn't drop down to 20, but IF I did, I would want a BOATLOAD in return.
I didn't see where Kizer specifically went? But I think the latest mocks are available on nfl.com to peruse? If we trade down there will be a lot more players off the board of course. That goes without saying. However, I see a draft that has good value in the late 1st and 2nd rounds for specific picks that are areas of need for the Jets? Isn't that the best of both worlds? Trading down, arming yourself with additional picks and getting great value on need picks? Shit, that should be the goal for every GM.
We could still certainly take Howard at 20. Nothing would be stopping us? Most mocks I've seen have Howard going somewhere in the 17 to 32 range. To me that would be an excellent 1st pick, Howard at 20...
I could be wrong on this but Howard feels like an 11 or 12 pick in this draft. I think 6 is too high and I'd be really surprised if he got down to 16.
i think howard may be a generational player, you don't get cute with those, you take them when they are there and start typing up the terms for his 2nd contract. the combine results fortify what the tapes already told us.take him at 6 and be done with it
Agreed, and IMO this draft isn't one for QB's, so sign a cheap Vet and play the kids. If the plan is to tank and bank then we either find our QB on the current roster, or set ourselves up to select a would be in 2018. I feel some wheeling and dealing coming on and we better load up on picks. In a perfect world, we can have at least -> 1,2,3,3,3(Richardson),3(Trade Down),5,6,7 ... I want to see them busy this draft, perhaps trading down multiple times if we still land players being targeted on the boards. According to Mac he likes to draft a QB each year, who knows .. we may even pull a Prescott out of a hat. Think positive. I hate hearing, "Same Ol Jets" .. to me, it's more like , "Same Ol Jets Fans"
