TCU fields a very good defense. For some odd reason, never paid much attention the FS ... I really like Kevin White (CB) from TCU and Paul Dawson the linebacker, might be the best linebacker in this draft. http://www.steelersdepot.com/2015/02/2015-nfl-draft-player-profiles-tcu-fs-chris-hackett/ Guys got talent that's for sure - good pick. I'll be sure to watch him at the combine.
Everytime I think of Rahim Moore, I think about the ball that sailed right over his head for the game tying TD for Baltimore that Denver eventually lost.
are you gonna think of Russell Wilson's pick everytime u think of him? Or all the other success he's had?
You know what? I'm convinced we need to sign a good strong safety, and start Pryor at his "natural position" at FS. Looking at his scouting reports, recollecting some college film…i think it might actually be a disservice to have him play strong. here me out: the best trait about Pryor is his ability to engage in an instant, hard and fast. he comes right the hell out of nowhere, and ignoring his famous bone crushing hits, its that speed, that fantastic field spanning range that makes him such an asset. as such this skill set may better be served with him hanging back deep, being patient and laying the hammer down in time as its needed, wherever needed, rather than committing to his assignments in a limited space sooner than later. Not only does he have the talent to lay down discouraging hits on a poor schmuck of a running back looking for a second wind, but he's also got the range and speed and drive to be a ballhawk in this league, a defensive back that comes out of nowhere to pick an unsuspecting QB off. I believe his struggles in pass protection are more a matter of poor support, and needing some time to acclimate to the role than him being solely a box player. I'm not certain his talents are best spent primarily covering TE's or something, that feels more like Allen's bag, I think a proper use of his talents is a role where he's allowed a wider range to work from, he just needs time to get his angles right. so I question if its wise to go looking for an expensive free safety at this time… we might already have our starter on the cheap with upside. tear me apart and tell me I don't know football if you want, please do, its constructive, but this is my thinking…
I won't think of the pick at all because it was a dumb call to begin with. And lol @ comparing Rahim Moore with Russell Wilson.
IMO he's the best free safety prospect in the draft and I don't think anyone knows. I'm actually hoping he runs slow as expected at the combine so he can stay in the 3rd-5th round range.
No, Pryor is NOT a FS imo. He's an in-the-box, type SS who excels vs the run. Coverage, being a center fielder and ball hawk is not his game.
Pryor is a special player. I believe he can do either or SS or FS, but it's going to take time before he's a roamer like he was in college. In the PRO's it looks like he's better at run support (see denver game). I'd rather him watch over the short field passes and plays coming out of the backfield than have him out "learning" how to cover IN GAMES.. which is a set up for failure. I say one more season of seasoning for him and he will find his self and turn into the player we expect. Plus a better supporting cast around him will allow him to do his own thing
thats all I'm saying in the end, he can be our bluechip FS with time… and thats a good counterpoint, getting there is a journey unto itself thats a shaky proposition in live action, but I have every belief that Pryor's potential lends itself to playing free more than in the box. it sure was in college… but, honestly thats a different beast altogether. theres a hard adjustment to the pro's, especially for defensive backs, I'm not prepared to never to the prospect of Pryor being a free safety, if anybody is capable of getting it out of him its Bowles.
He may be able to learn and grow into the FS position in the NFL, but I don't think he's anywhere near ready to play it yet. Hopefully, you're right about Bowles' ability as a teacher/coach.
The Jets are leaking that Milliner's ruptured achilles will keep him out until camp, so yeah they probably need to draft a guy and sign a vet.
If Milliner winds up on a Cover 2 team he could be an excellent CB. He has good eyes in the secondary and he plays with anticipation off his man. He's not great at mirroring and he's so-so at pressing and the line of scrimmage in general. And yeah, now that I think about it those are the qualities of a good FS.
I think the Jets will be very leery of trying to sign Revis for all the reasons we already know and a new one - which is all the tampering talk. If you believe anonymous sources the Jets have been non-stop tampering with Revis since before the season ended. I don't believe anonymous sources but who knows what the league office will think?
Revis is an ass. I hope one day every team trolls him and his agent and he'll have to accept average pay from a scrub team. Please Jets don't bring him back here. The circus left town he can catch a flight to buffalo if he wants to join forces with a circus again.
Who said anything about dumping Pryor... I think the general consensus is to move the buy BACK to his natural position of SS and see what he can do with some other talent around him. My whole hindsight 20/20 thing about Long was just ramblings. Reality dictates that we get Pryor back to his SS spot and fast.
It's a valid point that Bowles could use Pryor differently than Rex did. I just personally don't see him as a center fielder. The Jordy play sticks in people's minds because it's essentially a microcosm of his entire season. He seems to be much better moving towards the line of scrimmage than away from it and that was a given coming out of college. We shall see how Bowles uses him but it's not so much as he can't do it as it is that he'd be better suited playing down hill at strong safety. Mccourty would be an ideal fit next to him although he's going to demand lots of cash. Angles are the biggest part of playing free safety... McCourty has been an integral part of New England's defensive strategy in not giving up huge plays in that instead of a 70 yard gain with good angles and tackling he turns it into a 35 yard gain. He also brings versatility in that he has good man to man skills.
lol who ever is dumping Pryor after one season in a shitty secondary should just find a new sport to watch. Thats plain ignorance
