No, No, a thousand times no to any Pats player. They do not perform away from the Pats. Give me Delmas over McCourty at a friendlier cap #.
The thing about McCourty is that he knows what he's doing. And is the leader of the secondary for NEP. How would you like it if in our secondary there were no more mixups or blown assignments. Like New England. Which is probably the reason BB will re-sign him.
Good thread. Jaiquawn Jarrett probably isn't a long term answer, but he graded positively in coverage (11th best out of 80-some) and overall last year. He could at least be competition/depth/a rotation player. Might have to search for a steal in free agency. Some decent names, but not a particularly impressive class. How about via the draft with someone like Derron Smith or Chris Hackett?
I think a low cost high reward move would be Stevie Brown from the Giants. Had 8 interceptions a few seasons ago. Don't have to break the bank for him unlike McCourty even though he would be a good addition to the team.
Someone like this. Can't have someone who is a stiff in coverage. How about Ron Parker of Kansas City? A relative unknown, but he's a converted CB. I'd be down for Rahim Moore if he's not over-payed
I'm probably one of the few that still believes in Milliner. The guy has a very limited resume in the NFL to look and yes that is part of the problem staying healthy but he is an incredibly talented corner. He struggled as a Rook starting but he has huge upside and there is no reason to suggest he couldn't be a top corner in thus league. That said I believe you go into this off season as if he is depth only and not the answer, sign at least two corners or draft one, sign one and if Milliner stays healthy and McDougal pans out then all of a sudden we have talented depth at a position of dire need.
We can settle this: Rahim Moore to the Jets for 4 yrs/ 30 million. A toy just as good or better than what bowles had in tyran matheiu. This deal with Cromartie deal, Pryor position switch, healthy milliner and mcdougle plus draft picks gives us a nice revamp to the 2ndary
Too much money IMO. And is Moore really better than Mathieu? For comparisons, Kam Chancellor makes 7M/year and TJ Ward signed a deal for 5.6M/year last offseason. Moore wasn't bad last year, but apparently wasn't great either. And counting on Milliner and McDougle to be healthy and playing at a high level is risky. I'd be glad to see Cromartie back, but another high quality CB seems like a necessity, maybe on Day 2 of the draft
Was he the guy that replaced Eric Berry after the team found out he had Cancer? Not many great FS out there in the league, if we could find someone at a low price w/ high reward - that would be great going forward. Rahim Moore I would def be down for, def not worth the overpay though. Not a huge fan of the free safeties in this draft - matter of fact, haven't heard anything good in regards to any of them.
If he's bringing Revis and Browner along I'm up for it. The Pats secondary has thrived with either Talib or Revis on the field. When Talib was hurt last year their secondary sucked. McCourty imo is just another system player.
I'm honestly don't know the difference between a players annual salary and their cap hit.. but on rotoworld it says Kam's cap hit is only 5.6 mill and Ward's is 7.75. but any who he's only 25 entering his prime and coming off of his best season. Is he better than Mathieu? ehh..it's a toss up.. but i think they are on the same level... which is really really good regardless in that case. Would he come in and earn that 7 mill per if we gave it to him? if healthy i'd say hellll yes. High motor player.
Name: Chris Hackett Height: 6’1” Weight: 195 lbs Position: FS College: TCU http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1851216/chris-hackett Strengths: Long-limbed athlete with a tapered frame with room for additional muscle mass. Smooth, coordinated athlete who frequently was asked to handle single-high safety coverage, as well as drop down to cover slot receivers. Very good key and diagnosis skills. Anticipates the direction of the play, making him faster to the ball than his 40-yard dash time might indicate. Impressive hand-eye coordination for a defensive back, showing the ability to extend and pluck the ball outside of his frame as well as contort his body in mid-air to make the tough interception. Disciplined defender, who will sacrifice his body to take out the legs of oncoming blockers to funnel the action back toward his teammates, rather than going for the tackle, himself, and potentially leaving cutback lanes for nifty ball-carriers to exploit. Long arms and strong hands to grab hold and drag ball-carriers to the ground. Generates impressive closing speed and has a knack for knocking the ball loose (five career forced fumbles). Weaknesses: Never missed a game due to injury at TCU but possesses a lanky frame that could leave him vulnerable to the greater size and physicality of the NFL. Some concerns about his straight-line speed. Has a tendency to drop his shoulder into ball-carriers and must be careful not to draw targeting fouls. Comparison: Michael Griffin, Tennessee Titans -- Hackett is leaner and longer than the 6-0, 215 pound Griffin, but possesses similar awareness, open-field tackling skills and big play chops. Since earning a first round selection in 2008 (No. 19 overall), Griffin has started all but nine games for the Titans and has recorded 24 interceptions and 11 forced fumbles.
I like what I read about him. Also think Derron Smith seems like a prototypical centerfielder at FS. I'd like one of these two in the 3rd round, maybe Smith first
We could have had Le'Veon Bell...with our SECOND round pick. Or Eddie Lacy. Kiko Alonso (Him AND Demario Davis would be a beastly pair).
