Middling picks for middling players looks like to me, not sure what I'm looking at. Fitzpatrick might be the only value there really
Sweat is a top 10-to-5 run defender in the league. Fitzpatrick is a top 10 graded safety overall. The only player we gave up had a bad year coming off a career-altering injury. After that it’s a bunch of picks that likely wont turn into NFL players and Geno. I’d say that’s a win.
Seems that all of Clemons' penalties were big ones. Killing rare successes on defense and extending drives for the offense. His beef with the player from Philly I think was his low point here.
I would much rather trade up for Tate or lemon. I get it… Everybody wants to fortify the offensive line but we’ve been doing that for years while other teams plug and play mid tier free agents or day 2/3 draft picks. We have two above average skill position players. We’ve ignored those positions for what seems like a decade, maybe more. At some point we have to start building there too.
I agree but I’d make an exception if they can get Mauigoa. He’s in the Zach Martin/Quenton Nelson class of game changing guards. There are very few and far between guards I’d put in the category of guys I’d take in the first round. He and Membou would move bodies on the right side together.
I wouldn’t move up for him but I don’t think it’d be crazy to move down from 2 for him or Tate if someone’s in love with Bain/Reese/Bailey. He is definitely a special talent. I think (and hope) we’re going offense with 3 out of the first 4 picks given what we did in FA with the defense. There’s plenty to work with on defense at this point.
No trade up for a guard!! I would not want to take a guard at 16 let alone trade up for one We need WR more than we need a guard
I don’t know…All Pro guards are nice but even they don’t move the needle like a WR does. I can deal with a lesser player at guard if it means getting a top WR. I honestly would be pretty upset if pick 16 is a guard…I don’t care if he is Martin or Nelson, I’d rather draft a guard later who won’t be as good and take a receiver at 16.
There are two problems with this logic. First of all the hit rate on receivers is much lower than offensive line. Second of all the receiver only helps on passing plays (unless he is an incredible blocker) while the guard can help with the run and the pass. You can get a pro bowl guard in the middle to end of the first round. After pick ten the no brainers at receiver are already off the board..
Agreed, all depends on a player. It would have to be someone special to draft IOL that early, but not impossible. 2nd/3d round (3d would have to be some sort of trade down/up) would be ideal.
But that doesn't mean you shouldn't take them. 3 out of the top 10 receivers this last season weren't taken in the first round. 5 of the top 10 weren't taken in the top 20 picks. 9 of the top 10 weren't taken in the top 10 picks. I know there are also far more players that DIDN'T pan out after pick 10 but the point is if you can scout or if the board falls in your favor you can absolutely get star receivers in the teens, 20s, 2nd round.
