I'm not that mad at losing AVT but I hate that he went to the Pats. Almost guaranteed he turns into an Ironman now and misses no games. When healthy, he is a borderline Pro-Bowler. Not that we would know because he's so rarely on the field.

In retrospect, this was just a terrible move by Douglas to move up for him in that 2021 draft. Could have had Christian Darrisaw at our original pick and hung onto our 3rd rounder.

Coulda. But at the time we were all pretty happy about it. AVT could've been a career Jet. The injuries can't be predicted.

I don’t even think this was a terrible move in retrospect. You can’t pin injuries on a GM. By all accounts AVT was going to be a top player at his position which would have justified the trade up and we’d have been saying nothing about it as he anchored the interior for a decade.

Normally I don’t bother with Boomer or literally anyone on WFAN, but his close relationship with Frank Reich has me listening. He just said this morning that the Jets “could be“ waiting for someone to shake free that is going to be a two year starter that can win them games, be smart and operate the offense. Drew comparisons to Ryan Fitzpatrick. He also dropped the line “he’s not going to be a guy that runs for first downs”. I’d love to say that makes me think Cousins, but it immediately makes me think Andy Dalton.

He’s also a FA already so he doesn’t have to shake free. I think we’re looking at Dalton/Wentz or Geno/Wentz.

Jesus...commanders dropped $31 mill/year on their LT. These salaries, at a select couple positions, are getting ridiculous.
I wouldn’t hate on Dalton, that’s a name I haven’t heard floated up to this point. Just assumed he would sign where he was at.

Also, AVT, that dude can pound sand! It’s one thing to flap your gums when you’ve literally spent half your career in the training room and another thing to flap your gums, and then go sign with the divisional mortal enemy.

    Plus he was named captain

there may be another side to the story like jets determined he was too big of an injury risk and would only offer low money. And avt’s change of scenery stuff may have been the way he chose to spin that the jets didn’t really want him. Time will tell. Also this isn’t a pay raise for him and in some regard is a cut when one considers the general escalation

Change of scenery doesn't mean it's a diss to the jets. I take it as he just wants a fresh start, nothing wrong there. Just awful it's with the Pats, that's what stings. AVT has been good locker room guy but woof

Sounds like it's Geno or Dalton. Perhaps shaking free means they are waiting for the official release tomorrow?

I can't see it being 38 year old Dalton, that would be ridiculous. I do not see the point in Cousins either. I have no idea who Boomer was talking about, but I would think someone like Will Levis would make more sense as someone who will break free soon due to the Trubisky signing. Or Tyson Bagent, but he is somewhat of a mobile QB. Or Mac Jones, but SF would need to acquire another backup

“Shaking free” makes me think Dalton because the Panthers signed Pickett yesterday and Dalton may end up getting cut. I mean either way… hard to get pumped.

I’m just going off what Boomer says because of his connection to Reich and none of those guys sound like what he described. He could also be completely wrong, who knows, but I definitely think it makes more sense that Reich wants an experienced Fitzpatrick type over a younger guy with little to no success à la Levis.

The more I think of it, it sounds like Mac Jones i can see a QB like Cousins signing with SF and Mac Jones traded for a 2nd round pick. He is young and experienced.

It was already reported Kirik was not an option. Right or wrong, but we've reached the point where we have to HOPE it is Geno, who just led his team to #1 overall pick.

I mean he had three serious injuries, and has been on losing teams for his entire career.

I don't blame him for wanting a change of scenery. It doesn't mean he hates the Jets. He got a nice payday, and gets to go to last years Super Bowl runner-up.

Cimini said the Jets weren't even all that interested in bringing him back because of injuries.

There are wayyy more reasons than Geno for the Raiders picking first overall. He’s far from blameless but that franchise was a disaster, maybe moreso than us. A good OL and run game would help him a ton. And throwing to Wilson and hopefully BTJ is a huge upgrade from what he had there especially after they traded Meyers.

Yeah my thoughts are the same. Free agency means its his choice, I cant blame him for that. Get that bag, sucks he didnt want to be here but then going to Pats stings. I will not be rooting for the guy anymore but he must feel good about the Pats thinking his triceps wont tear again
