Yes... Watson isn't a stopgap he's very well respected THREAT. Love Watson. Benjamin can single handedly transform our ST from hot booty to the shit! (ew) If we can bring in them 2 plus Lamar Miller ( i really really really want Lamar Miller on this team i won't make a scenario without him being involved) we'll be very SET! Draft o-line and LB in the draft... and tell Maccagnan we love him.
Bigger deal than Mario Williams or Suh? I would also be a big fan of going after Lamar Miller and letting Powell and Ivory walk.
I kind of like Danny Trevathan as a LB pickup. Figure the Broncos will focus on Miller and may let Trevathan slip. He would be a great cover LB. He has 2 picks and leads the Broncos in Tackles. He is only 25 yo and they also have Brandon Marshall (the LB) The Broncos wont be able to keep everyone of their LB's.
Exactly why I don't know if they could keep Miller too. I think they just gave Thomas the same deal Dez got this past offseason and I think Sanders got a nice deal 2 years ago. They also have Clady under contract. Talib and TJ Ward (I think his name is Ward [the safety who was on cleveland]). They also have to pay Chris Harris JR soon. Like you said, they cannot pay everyone
We need to save our money on in house free agents and upcoming draft picks. Would be interested in Dwayne Allen on the cheap and Lamar Miller over Ivory if he's the cheaper option. If not rather resign Powell and draft RB.
You guys crack me up. What the hell good is it going to do bringing in a pass-catching TE? You think Chan will suddenly start sending him more than 2 routes a game? Line up an extra OT and be done with it.
Why wouldn't he? He's always used his TE's, throughout his career. He had crap to work with this year. Line up an extra OT? Now that's funny
the only names at this point I would sniff are miller and Benjamin. I like Benjamins game but we would have a lot of coin tied up in WR.... come to think of it maybe fleener but he likely stays with the colts.
i wouldn't break the bank for a TE, but it's not like Gailey is adverse to using them. he once coached Tony Gonzalez to a 1,000 plus yd season as on OC. we had literally no TE option this season. it's an area we need to improve upon, and there are some interesting low cost FA's. a 2 way player is what we really need, as that will also help the run game.
i really like Watson too.. by stopgap, i only mean short term. he's 35, so he'll be inexpensive, but this might be his last season too. it's an option, but thinking about it further, there are probably better options.
He can block and he can catch a pass. I wouldn't call him an 'excellent' receiving TE tho. Maybe between him, Amaro, and IK they feel like they can make that work and they'll address other needs.....maybe. Lotta question marks there tho. Others brought up Watson as a stop gap guy. That's a thought. They need more from there. They got nothing from there this year
I'd sign Benjamin for a speedy WR who can play specials and line up on the outside... Dwayne Allen could be a guy to become the #1 TE. More of a blocker but he's got good athleticism and can be MUCH better receiving then this year current crop of TE's.
Even more importantly.. Ben Watson can block!!! A forgotten skill in the NFL that is a huge factor in running games. I'd sign up for Benjamin. I'd bet he gets a decent contract somewhere though ala Dwayne Harris (and he's a better receiving threat). Out of our price range I think. I'd guess we stand pat at receiver outside of drafting one in the mid-rounds.
