I wouldn't say it's bad. He's been suspended twice in four years in his career and he's entering his age 30 season. He doesn't really fit the profile of free agents we've been bringing in.
Wonder how much this FO/CS likes Guidry at nickel or if they're planning to continue the annual tradition of signing Brian Poole to a 1-year bargain deal. Given the state of CB, I'd think Poole would make a lot of sense at this point.
Yeah I’m not sure why they haven’t made a move yet regarding Poole. He’s a decent nickel guy and he is better than Williams imo.
I'm not so sure Poole is a fit for our new defensive scheme. He played in a similar, zone-heavy scheme in ATL and had a bad 2018 season. He fit Gregg's heavy blitz scheme very well. With that being said, I'd still bring him back because what do we have to lose?
Something tells me they like Guidry a lot for this new defense. But they still might bring Brian back for one more year.
It doesn't make sense to pay a nickel corner a lot of money especially in a zone scheme. Justin Coleman, Tavon Young, Bobby McCain, Anthony Brown, Nickell Robey-Coleman, etc. I mean they're not as much money as outside cornerbacks but they're relatively replaceable in this sort of scheme. They also tend to have a difficult time stringing good seasons together. Poole was a good player for us, but it's good to remember that our outside corner situation has been sort of a mess the past couple years as well so that reduces his targets. And I say that in wanting to give all of these kids a chance in a defined zone scheme not Gregg Williams clusterfuck blitzing scheme that changes coverages every other play. I'm not sure that he'll fall as far as I'd like but I like this kid. If you watch any of the Huskies games he's literally always around the ball and his energy is unmatched. He reminds me a lot of Mathieu in that regard. In a zone it could be as much of a three safety look in the 3rd linebacker role as it is covering up a slot receiver.
Don't the saftey/lb on the TE/RB and the slot corner generally play man even in zone coverage? There's probably a mix though.
Ya, pretty good DB and I recall him coming off his man and getting after the RB in the flat. He seems to be a good and willing tackler in space.
hes likely a situational player at this point in his career but its never a bad thing to have a stable of hungry pass rushers
i'd rather have Poole to begin with. Not sure what's taking so long to re-sign him. Our CB situation is currently terrible.
We might have an offer on the table...but his agent is shopping him for more money. He could just settle back here when all's said and done maybe?
Maybe. Chasing needs in the draft is a terrible approach though. Should re-sign Poole or another vet, AND look to draft a CB if opportunity is there.
