How the hell is Tyran Mathieu only 25 years old?

Damn, it’s rare to see 2 young superstars on the market like this. It’s much more justifiable to throw tons of money at guys like Tyran and Robinson than for some of the declining vets we usually go after (Revis, Marshall, etc)

Even if we do get Kirk, I would still go after him. We certainly have the cap to do it.

IMO the very last thing you do with a rebuilding team is bring in an older vet. You bring in a rookie and you build the offense around him and let them grow together and build chemistry. THAT is the smartest and best way to rebuild a team. You then have a long window of opportunity to get to and win a SB. As players get injured, retire, or aren't re-signed as FAs, you add in those players, but you still have continuity with your QB, and the likelihood of having a down year is less.

Doing it your way, even if Cousins signs, plays well and lasts for 5-6 years, at that point you'd then be trying to draft a rookie with an older veteran team whose window is closing or you are kicking the whole rebuilding thing that many years down the road, because more than likely, if the Johnsons pay around $30 million a season for Cousins, they are going to expect the team to make the playoffs, and the rebuild will be abandoned or cut short and not finished in an effort to go all in for the playoffs/Lombardi Trophy. That makes no sense if your goal is to build sustainable success, and that is and should be the Jets' goal.

Watkins has a ton of talent, but hasn't lived up to his hype. I'd take Robinson over Watkins any day.

Absolutely. Kirk or not, Robinson has to be one of the priority signings this offseason. We cannot rely on Robby to act like an adult off the field and no matter who's behind center, Robinson is a big target to have on the team.

If I'm A-Rob I take my first meeting in San Fran and don't leave the building without a contract. As a Jets fan, I'm obviously hoping he and Cousins both come to the building at the same day at the same time and sign their contracts with the same pen, but it's going to be tough to get one without the other.

Well said. I can totally see ARob joining that 9ers team. Him, Goodwin & a returning Garcon would be nice for Jimmy G.

And if you do as you say and the QB position turns into a turn style, as it is, or your QB gets injured?
We have been using this approach since 2000. It's time for something that works.

Your analysis is totally wrong. The Jets have not been using that approach since 2000. They drafted Sanchez in 2009. He is the only 1st round QB that they drafted during this time period, and the Jets didn't build the offense around Sanchez and what he does well, nor have the Jets tried to rebuild the roster from the ground up during this time period until now. Instead, they tried to retool on the fly and make the playoffs each year. They brought in older, more expensive FAs. Mac did the same thing his first 2 years here. He supposedly did try to trade up for Goff or Wentz 2 years ago, but that has been the only time that the Jets tried to get another QB high. Certainly neither Tanny nor Idzik tried, and I don't think Bradway did either.

Unless the Jets drafted the wrong QB, the QB position wouldn't turn into a turnstyle. As for what if he gets injured, the same thing could be said about Cousins. What if the Jets sign Cousins to a big contract with a lot of the money guaranteed and several years guaranteed, and he suffers a major injury and misses a year or more or the injury turns out to be career-ending? That would be a LOT worse. If the Jets draft a QB and he proves to be a bust, then they aren't out much money, and unless they traded up to get him, they're only out one #1 pick. Of course that would hurt, but it wouldn't preclude them from drafting another QB the following year or the 2nd year after.

There have been a lot of years where because the Jets didn't have their own home-grown FQB, they had no other option than to sign a JAG FA QB (or trade for one) to play the position, because there weren't enough good QB prospects in the draft, the Jets weren't in the position to draft one, and/or they didn't make it a priority and didn't try to trade up to get one. They've had the same problem with edge rusher since Abraham. Like elite QBs, they go early, and the Jets either haven't been in a position to draft one, they didn't make it a priority and try to trade up to get one, or there weren't any/enough in the draft. So the Jets have tried to fix their pass rush with their DL and with 3rd round OLBs or 2nd or 3rd tier FAs.

I didn't say that the Jets should base their decision off PFF's rankings. I just thought that the quote was interesting and would stimulate discussion.

thoughts? Seems like Sherman is on his way out of Seattle.

  16. Pass. He’ll have a hefty price tag, doesn’t fit the rebuild & not sure he even fits the scheme. He can play some off man but does better in that Seattle zone based scheme.

He would be a good leader & fits w the attitude adjustment in the secondary. But the age, price tag & scheme fit don’t add up

Rather see them prioritize alittle more speed to go along w the length Bowles wants from a corner

Fuck no to Sherman. Fuck that guy.

The Jets are not 1 CB away from a SB. Not worth the headaches this guy will bring.
