I like watching the Packers play, believe me you don't want AJ Hawk on this team. He doesn't do anything good. He makes awful reads, is an awful tackler, and he's prob just as slow as David Harris.
I am still waiting for an announcement that Snacks has been re-signed. If he is allowed to hit FA, I think NE could be all over that. Wilfork isn't getting any younger.
Yeah, this topic has seemed to cool off a bit in the last week or so but now we are days out from tag designations and no word on snacks. I'm hoping for a first or second round tender.
I don't see how you think this fixes our secondary issues...is it an upgrade, absolutely, but Cro is 31 and on the decline of his career he did play well in AZ, but I would say having Pat Peterson and Tyrann Mathieu played a part in that. Byron Maxwell is young and has a lot of upside, but lets face it he played in the best defense in the league for the past two seasons, who's to say he's not just a product of the system...I think there are better options out there and i am not saying i wouldn't be happy to bring these guys in, but i don't think that gives us a "brand new team". We still need safety help as well!
Any interest in Anthony Fasano? A Verona NJ guy, he is a tough gritty dude who can block. Could be a good guy to mentor Amaro.
I used the salary cap calculator to play with our available cap space: Link: http://overthecap.com/calculator/new-york-jets I did not touch the contracts for Mo Wilkerson, Sheldon Richardson, or Demario Davis but I would try to extend all of them if possible. I also did not touch Breno or Fergeson who are both possible 2016 cuts that will save money in future years. Here is the cap room left in each year after the signings I put in (not counting our draft picks): 2015 - $15,533,414 2016 - $18,794,652 2017 - $45,709,236 2018 - $99,495,000 2019 - $135,845,000 The idea for QB is that we bring in one contender for the starting job and another QB that will most likely back up but is also offered the chance to compete for the starting job. Both guys get guaranteed money (Mallett $2.5 mil and McCoy $1.5 mil with additional incentives for games started, etc. so that whoever does win the starting job ends up making at least $5 mil per year. I think they would take less guaranteed money (compensation for backup QB) if there is a payday should they win the starting job. Since the calculator does not do incentives I assumed that Mallet wins the starting job and give him $5-6 mil since incentives count against the cap until the season is over anyway. Cuts: Percy Harvin WR - if we can make a deal we don't go for free agent otherwise we save $10.5 mil Chris Johnson RB - already done saves $3.75 mil Jeff Cumberland TE - salves $1.9 mil Nick Folk K - saves $2.65 mil Total savings - $18.8 mil (less 4 roster spots at $435k each) Resign - Forget all of the details of extensions (can't save cap calculator) Damon Harrison DT - 5 years $30 mil Kendrick Ellis DE - 4 years $14 mil Dawan Landry - 2 years Leger Douzable - 3 years Jaiquan Jarrett - 3 years Tanner Purdum - 3 years Greg Salas - 1 years Nick Bellore - 1 years Free agent shopping list QB - Ryan Mallett - Four years, $2.5 mil per with tons of incentives if he is the starter QB - Colt McCoy - Two years, $1.5 mil per with incentives RB - Jaquizz Rogers - Two years $3 mil total FB - Jerone Felton - Four years $12 mil total WR - Randall Cobb OR Brandon Marshall OR Jeremy Maclin - Five years $46 mil total TE - Jermaine Gresham - Four years $15 mil total TE - Anthony Fasano - Three years $4 mil total C / OG - Stefen Wisnewski - Five years $16 mil total OG - Rob Sims - Two years $8 mil total ILB - AJ Hawk - One year $3 mil OLB - Brian Orakpo - Five years $42 mil total OLB - Brandon Graham - Five years $35 mil total CB - Antonio Cromartie - Three years $20 mil total K - Ryan Succop - Two years $3 mil total Even with the signings above we have some room to play with depending on what happens with our own guys. I would offer Wilkerson $11-12 mil per year on a 6 year deal. If he does not go for it before free agency starts we can make a play for another big free agent and trade him for picks / players.
Not sure about bringing back K Ellis. Do they really need him? I think Douzable is more than adequate.
Seems everyone is down on Amaro to have a decent 2nd season with the Jets, he's a 2nd round pick, why spend money on 2 TEs? Get Fasano and be done with it to compliment Amaro. I would rather see him develop. Gresham is a drop machine.
uhh, why cut Folk? theres nothing wrong with 'em, and I don't think we need to get cheap at kicker of all things.
schefter never said he SAW the video. he said he knows it exists basically also would anyone be interested in signing AP if he gets cut? it's a tough decision to make
I would sign S- McCourty CB- Cro, Maxwell OLB- Brandon Graham Draft 1st Mariota 2nd Jalen Strong LineUp QB- Mariota Rb Ivory WR Decker Strong Percy Kerly OL- same as last year D Mo, Snacks, Sheldon OLB Graham, Coples ILB Davis Harris CB Maxwell, Cro, Dee, McDougle FS- McCourty S Pryor
For a franchise kicker making $3 mil per year folk missed too many kicks last year. I went for a cheaper option that did better last year.
Amaro is our pass catching TE. We need some Grasham to block and Fasano for depth. Cumberland should be cut loose.
If Wilkerson, Snacks, and Coples could all be ex-Jets three years from now. Ellis is a capable player that can take snaps at DT or DE.
