Huh? Vrabel's been underrated for years, and was dominant at times last year. Green didn't seem all that overrated playing for Seymour and racking up 8 sacks...or 25 as a backup over the past 5 years. Even then....it's a football *team.* You can say all the talented players on the Pats are overrated....which is why I made sure to include coaching (therefore system). What *actually* matters to me is what Samuels can and can't do. I don't think he'd have much success in man to man coverage because it requires far more discipline than he plays with. Well why would I want to risk a bajillion dollars to find out if he can handle man coverage? Yea um...just because you haven't heard of him until recently or he hasn't made a Pro Bowl or All-Pro team doesn't mean he's not proven. The guys been one of the better players on a pretty good OL the past two seasons. Were you even around for the 2007 offseason? Langston Walker got 10 million guaranteed. Dockery and Davis almost got 19 million. Steinbach got a monster contract. Stacey Andrews JUST got franchised. Seeing the trend? Young offensive linemen are at a premium right now. Have most people heard of them? No. Does that make them not good? Nope. Does that make them unproven? Nope.
I think adding Samuel, drafting Gholston, and finding an NT will make the defense no longer an issue. I'd be willing to pay, Mangini knows what he can do.
this arguement can go both ways, but imo, we need to address the o and d line, first. i think thats where the $ needs to go
Bingo. The only team that will throw regardless is NE, but I'm more worried about the other 14 games myself.
Perhaps I'm out of the loop, but I thought New England played a lot of man coverage, not zone????? Either way Samuel is a great player and i would be pumped if we signed him.
