No way I'd be happy with trading Teddy now and going with 2 QBs (with one an older, oft-injured guy who isn't that good and a rookie being the 2 QBs) and Pryor as an emergency QB. If that's what the Jets do, I hope they go 0-16 and both Bowles and Mac are fired.
I agree, there's no rush to trade Teddy. If he performs well in the pre-season, and injuries mount on other teams, his value goes up during the season. What if he wins the starting job?
I wouldn't be surprised if a handful of chuckleheads seriously think that. Ya get all kinds, as my Grandfather used to say.
Don’t forget Pryor can play emergency QB should it ever came to that. That means we could roll with 2 QBs and be good. The smart move is to hype Bridgewater up this preseason and move him to another team for a 3rd pick or something.
Normally I’d agree, but Bridgewater is not our long term starter and we already got a stop gap in McCown. If we are offered something decent for him then why not pull the trigger?
I’m not suggesting we don’t trade Teddy, I just don’t know whether Pryor is a viable emergency back-up.
Doesn’t matter what the long term plan is. Once training camp starts the players and coaches are playing for this year. If Teddy is the best qb out there and you trade him you just have a big middle finger to the rest of the roster. If teddy lights it up teddy stays and starts.
and Because it would be beyond stupid! QBs get injured fairly regularly in the NFL, particularly when they aren't playing behind a quality OL. Do you not remember how questionable our OL is? Do you not remember McCown's age and how injury-prone he is? Do you not remember 1999 when Parcells arrogantly tried to go into the season with just Vinny and an emergency QB in Tom Tupa? How did that work out? McCown rarely can stay healthy, so counting on him to stay healthy and be available for the entire season would be unrealistic, especially behind our OL. In all likelihood Darnold isn't going to be ready to start day 1 and he shouldn't just be thrown to the wolves. Do you really want to see Pryor at QB this season? And what if he isn't healthy or gets re-injured? Who's gonna play QB then? It is waaaaaaaaaaaay too early to even think about trading Teddy. The Jets finally have some quality QBs and QB depth, and you want to dismantle it before the season even begins? Come on, guy, you're better than this.
Yeah and Teddy’s known for his ability to never get injured lol. If we lose two QBs to injury were screwed anyway. All I am saying is that I’d be willing to trade a QB who isn’t the future for a day 1-2 pick or a pass rusher. Obviously if we don’t get a decent return for him in a trade then the depth is more valuable.
If there is a fair and open competition for the starting job, more than likely, Teddy will beat McCown out. We'll get more for Teddy in a trade if he starts and plays several game than we would now before TC or even a preseason game has been played. Teddy suffered one injury. He isn't injury prone. Even if he got injured playing here, at least that would give us more depth until the injury occurred, and could give Darnold more time to get ready.
Well to be fair it's the only injury he ever had. Rookie year he was made starter like week 4 and started every game that year. And every game the season after
It depends. Nobody knows how TC/Pre season will play out. If some team has a Tannehill type blowout (or even two teams) and Bridgewaters knee looks solid somebody may bit and give you a 2nd for him right then and there Don't underestimate Darnold beating out McCown and Bridgewater outright for the job week 1. Sam just seems to be the type that's an incredibly fast learner
