Even if McKnight chased the guy and ran up to his passenger side, he didn't deserve to be shot and killed. As soon as Gasser wields his gun I find it hard to fathom McKnight didn't change his demeanor. All around this is a tragedy for both the shooter and the victim. Anything that happens on the road is never worth someone's life being taken away.
How is this a tragedy for the shooter? He took someone's life over an argument. Regardless of the situation, a heated disagreement is never a reason to draw your weapon and fire.

JP Sheriff releases information on alleged 2006 battery involving Ronald Gasser. [same intersection] "Sheriff Newell Normand reports, Gasser was involved in an incident on February 20, 2006, around 3:30 PM that began on Holiday Drive in New Orleans and ended in the service station at the intersection of Holmes Blvd. and Berhman Hwy., in Terrytown. During this incident, the victim/reporting person, identified only as a 51-year-old white male from Marrero, called 911 in Jefferson Parish to report that a male subject was driving a red pick-up truck unsafely on Holiday Drive. The victim observed a phone number on the truck to call if the vehicle was being operated unsafely. When the victim called the phone number, an individual, later identified as Ronald Gasser told the victim he was the one driving the red pick up truck. A verbal altercation began between the victim and Gasser began at that time. Once the victim reached the service station, he pulled in to begin refueling his vehicle. It was at that time Gasser, who had followed him into the station, confronted him and began to strike him with a closed fist several times. After doing so, the victim reported Gasser drove out of the service station, at which time he called 911. "Investigators at a later date located Mr. Gasser, at which time he was issued a misdemeanor summons for simple battery. The charge of simple battery was ultimately dismissed. They release the shooter in the middle of the night, they botch whether it is 2 shots or 3 shots, and they release this information in the middle of the night too. This is some shady bullshit
while that changes our perception, the charges were dismissed, you are asking the sheriffs office to treat that as a conviction. but that is a real twist.
despite what he deserved, you do not get to choose the consequences for your actions. just know that there will be consequences. if joe indeed decide he was too bad ass to be cut off and chased this guy to the point where the guy was afraid,he has a part in his death. now, if gasser initiated the whole thing and shot joe in cold blood he should get the chair. either way, a lot of lifes ruined for no good reason
Aside from the tragedy of the circumstances of how he died, the fact that this kid had real talent and somehow ended up not living up to it as a player is another tragedy.
I'm not asking them to treat that as a conviction. I am asking them to do a better job investigating this crime. I am wondering why this man is released based on his words when a black man in a similar situation in the same city (Will Smith shooting) wasn't. I am asking them to get their facts right. And I am wondering why they tried to hide this. I am not a police hater by any means but I do believe it is important as a citizen to question their actions when it appears questionable and I'm not going to take their word for things when they have gotten details wrong like in this case already

yes and Will Smith had a gun. Joe McKnight didn't. And Mcknight was shot 3 times not twice. The devil is in the details, tell that to the JPD
a man with no priors shoots a man 3 times in the chest and claims self defence v a man with drug and weapon convictions who shoots a man 8 times in the back. i don't have a problem seeing how one is held and charged and the other is released while an investigation is underway

Exactly. If McKnight was the aggressor, he caused his own death. If Gasser was the aggressor, he is guilty of at least 2nd degree murder.
