Junc, come on; no way would things be better if Herm was still here. Herm has more than proven his ineptitude as a head coach; he ran our team into the ground with bad drafts, stupid contracts to well-past-prime veterans, and very conservative coaching - Kansas City is just a total wreck right now and Herm will get the can after the season or maybe even before the end of the season (It's been trendy this year to fire a coach mid-season). You could argue that Bradway had his hand in it, too, but the guy was more likely trying to work with Herm and the direction he wanted the team to go. As far as Chad goes; for me it is up in the air. I liked Chad when he was here, and I still do wish him the best. I think one could make a very strong argument that we would probably have an identical record with Chad here and maybe one game better in the win department (why - he knew our playbook in very graphic detail and was having a pretty good pre-season). The only thing is that you sure will not get the deeper throws with Chad, but Brett isn't exactly throwing it deep either. Our offensive line has been sporatic; sometimes good; sometimes not very good at all. I think this has been a bit of a contributor to where we are, too.
I realize that...but I've never seen a Jets coaching staff get ripped for WINS just as much as they get ripped for losses...at this point I think it's the fan base with the problems and not the coaching staff. I mean...the shit people have said about these guys...the reaches people are making to knock them... I'd like to see Sutton replaced, but Schotty needs more time to evaluate cause honestly...I don't trust fan analysis...people were knocking the spread we used against Oakland...but even Joe acknowledged that *everyone* had been using the spread against the Raiders...all the knocks of conservative play calling IMO is media and fan built...and beyond what they see neither the media or fans understand the process behind decision making...and if they do they ignore it anyway cause it gets in the way of being mad. Fact is, we know very little about Schotty and IMO this offense has been held back more by Favre knowing the in's and out's of the offense than the playcalling. Actually, this offense has been held back by dumbass mistakes more than anything else...trips...penalties...drops...bad snaps...fumbles...INTs...
He has no talent in KC, he proved in year 1 when he ahd some talent and he guided them to their 1st postseason appearane in 3 years(despite less talent in '06 than they had the previous couple of years). Chad, when healthy, is very good. He's healthy now, he knows our offense. There's no doubt we'd be better right now if he was still here. I still hold out hope this move will pan out and we'll be alot better w/ Brett down the stretch- I just hope it's not too late.
If Chad and Herm stayed, this team would be as good as the chiefs, Brick and Mangold wouldn't be anchoring the line, and Cotchery would still be sitting on the bench for some veteran they gave up a pick for.... maybe Justin McFuckhands is still on the team. The Jets would be the Chiefs, or a slightly better version.
Here's what we know about Shotty. His father was a winning head coach who going up against equally talented teams in pressure situations got his ass kicked for being to conservative. We know that the SD team he coached was probably the single most talented team in the NFL and didn't make the playoffs his last year in that organization. While Brees did well under him he has done substantially better since leaving. We also know looking at our O that we have not consistently done anything well showed some flashes but have shown little determination to sticke with anything. We also know that the scripted part of our O that opens games with a week of preperation and game planning has been completely shut down. We also know coming out of half time adjustments our O has been completely shut down. We also know that once the players are in the flow of the game in the 2nd and 4th quarters their talent is putting points on the board. I would suggest that all of those things are red flags on our game plan, ability to adjust and a lack of conviction by the OC.
True enough...he was also good enough to garner HC considerations after one season. Plus, all the pre-snap movement...the hurry up...all that stuff has disappeared this year...not to mention the many offensive screw ups we've had. I'm worried about Schott...but since it's unlikely we'll just dump and change him....I'll wait these last 10 games.
Oh please. Cochery wasn't benched. he played alot in year 2 but we had a 4th string QB for most of the season. maybe they don't trade Abe but I think they would have, assuming we make simialr moves we'd be ALOT better right now b/c Herm was a much better coach here than Mangini has been and Chad healthy is better than the Favre we have seen so far. Things can change quickly and I hope they do. There is nothing more I want than to be wrong about all of this stuff.
I'm pretty sure they went 14-2 and were the #1 seed in the AFC in Marty's last year. They had the NE playoff game won on the INT and the guy fumbled it back to the Pats. Unless I'm missing something here.
They did away with it to simplify things for Favre so he could get a basic grasp of the offense in time to start the season. It's called adjusting to the needs of a great player, I had no problem with that, Favre said during camp that it was unnecessary for him. I think it was only put in as a smoke-and-mirrors approach the first year when they had Chad with two rookies on the OL and no real running game. It worked then but we're probably better off without it now.
My apoligize it was the year prior they choked out in the regular season it was the 14 & 2 year with a far superior team at home they lost their only playoff game.
Marty has a 613 winning % in the regular season and a 278 winning % in the playoffs. Many of those were home playoff losses with a bye with the consensus best team in football. When you consistently lose against good teams with superior talent over time something it wrong, probably the something is either bad luck or being out coached in game plan or tendencies. In either event bad luck or bad design is not what you want on your sidelines. I think he son is probably very bright but he appears right now to lack conviction and seems to be over matched.
Marty also shouldn't have fumbled on his way into the end zone for Cleveland vs Denver in the 1987 AFC championship game. He never should have missed that FG to beat us in 2004, either. He's always messing up in the big spots.
Can I enter TN as a team on the rise Right now BFLO looks like another bubbling up team In the NFC the NYGs come to mind
