Rich, this has been my argument all week.

It got to the point where people were reseacrchign the legalities of firing an employee for an out of work DUI.

Also, I do not think the team should do anything to Edwards. I've been saying it all week.

It is a LEGAL issue not a LEAGUE issue.

However in order to pacify those calling for Braylon's head-I am saying if he must be benched, do it the bye week.

You should send this list to Fatcesa and ask him to point us to when/where he was bashing the teams of these players.

Didn't we go a few rounds yesterday because you are all for benching Braylon?

I take that back. You were arguing that TJ and Faneca not being on the team led us to these "discipline" issues.

Even at the top of his game Braylon Edwards was out of control last week, getting the taunting penalty and nearly getting another one.

The reason I'm worried about this is that I see more than a few outcomes potentially occurring on Sunday night. One of them is that the Jets lose the game and are sitting at 1-2 with a team that has shown very little focus this year and is down 2 games to the Dolphins at that point. I think the Jets are in real trouble in that situation and they will still have done nothing to address the overall immaturity levels being shown by the team as a whole.

Edwards playing in that game is going to have a relatively low impact on whether or not the Jets win. Wide receivers are just not that important in the overall scheme of things unless they just totally suck. For those who say that the difference between Edwards and Clowney is a win or a loss, please explain the Baltimore game in which Edwards played fulltime and Clowney did not. Would the Jets have scored only 2 points if Clowney played? Would they have scored -5? Would the Jets have lost to the Patriots last week if Edwards did not play? Doubtful, because it was the Jets defense that won the game, shutting down the Patriots completely in the second half. Take Edwards TD and 2-point conversion out of the score and the Jets still win 20-14. This assuming that Sanchez wouldn't have found other options available to him. Edwards caught 5 passes for 45 yards. That's not the difference between a win and a loss.

So I don't see an undisciplined, mistake-prone and frankly not all that productive Braylon Edwards as a key for this game. If the Jets are treating him like he's the big cheese and invulnerable to his own mistakes then they're enabling all the other issues occurring around him. The best thing that could happen to Braylon Edwards and the Jets is the Jets win in Miami without him getting on the field for a single snap. Talk about an instant lesson in how valuable he actually is, as opposed to how valuable he imagines himself to be.

I saw a column the other day that pointed out that Mark Sanchez really bad decision making started occurring with regularity at the point that Braylon Edwards became his main target. It just looked at the numbers, and Sanchez QB rating and completion percentage were lower by quite a bit when he was targeting Edwards as opposed to any other receiver. His numbers were lower targeting Edwards than they had been targeting Chancey Stuckey. He threw 10 interceptions on passes that targeted Edwards last year. The guy pointed out that Edwards had always been among the league leaders in interceptions when thrown at.

The point to all of this is that the Jets don't need Edwards for the Fin game. There's a chance that he has a breakout game and really helps them, but there is a bigger chance that he's a problem again as he has been at times in both games they've played so far. Given that reality a sane head coach and team would have sat Edwards and put the load on his teammates to pick up the slack. This is supposedly a very talented team, if they also have heart they can do that.

The Steelers are winning with nobody at QB but the Jets NEED a dysfunctional Braylon Edwards to win? What kind of message does that ping around the locker-room?

Oh, and I forgot the punchline: if the Jets go to Miami and lose and Edwards is part of the loss due to the kind of mistakes he's made on the field this year they're toast. That's a huge risk to take given what the Jets have seen of Edwards on and off the field this season.

If we bench than you should bench all the Jets in the car as they all let him drive. That would be saying lets just lose the game on Sunday. This guy only has a one year contract, the court case and any time served will most likely be after the season is over anyhow and he is not a jet at that point. Why should Jets punish themselves, heck Braylon's next year asking price fell like a brick over this so Jets are in catbird seat, cut him lose at end of year or re-sign him cheap.

Mr. Edwards is a pretty good driver if he can drive in a straight line and be double the limit

Just wonder if windows were 100% tinted why didn't Mr. Edwards Girl Friend switch seats with him before he rolled down tinted window for cops

He was asked yesterday and replied that this is NY and things are different in NY. If he was in Miami he might ask Ronnie but not here. The guy only does this because the Jets have the most fervent fans and getting us all pissed at him is easy and means ratings! the guy is a joke. I sent the list to Greenie (from mike and mike) and did not have a chance to listen to him today so maybe he mentioned it.

Rex to Edwards: Don't be a slapdick!

I'm very sorry about your loss and what you went through. It sounds horrible, especially for your friend's family.

That being said, I disagree. Edwards will be punished by the legal system - assuming that he is found guilty. If other NFL teams had benched their players after DWIs, I might be more sympathetic to this argument. But the fact of the matter is that you are buying into this notion that somehow, because its the Jets and we are the team to hate now, Edwards should be treated differently than the dozens of players that came before him who did the same thing.

No one is saying drunk driving is ok, but unless things change with NFL policy, he should play.

The Jets/Ravens game had nothing to do with WR play because our QB was too scared to throw downfield. According to people who watched the coaches tape we had wide open receivers downfield.

If you cannot see the difference between David Clowney and Braylon Edwards then no one can help you. I'm sure that you can though.

I could make a good argument that Clowney does in fact suck at WR.

Without Edwards in the game, we will not be able to stretch the field in the same manner as we do with him in there..

With Clowney in the game instead of Edwards, the phins will not be too concerned with our pass plays.

Sure Keller and Cotch will have an impact as will LT out of the backfield on pass plays but we have no down field threat without Braylon.

DeMaurice Smith mentioned that the NFLPA could pose sanctions on the team based on the severity of the outcome from arbitration - fines, loss of draft picks, etc. The CBA was updated in 2006 which is a year AFTER Hermie imposed his benching. That language was changed in the CBA. (too lazy to go find it)

I read an article along thos elines as well. Its cause when BE got here, Sanchez was thinking "just throw the ball up and he will come down with it". When you dissect each of those 10 INTs you will see that a majority of the throws were either behind BE or poorly thrown passes. Don't shift the blame to BE.

Trent Dilfer was trash talking BE on the radio the other day. That was when BE was a rookie. Maybe he has changed his football attitude. None of us know that. Only the players.

Or maybe he really wasn't that drunk and just had alcohol on his breath. These guys don't smoke (normally) and probably don't carry a pack of gum with them either. So after the drinks, they cool their jets, and then get n the car to go home. Has anyone else ever done that and still smell like a brewery? I have.

Well the deep throws he did make turned out badly, at least one of them because Edwards wasn't focused enough to avoid a penalty before the snap.

I see the difference I just don't think it turns into many, if any, wins. This is not the Braylon Edwards of 2007 we're talking about. He's been pretty sucky since then. Look at the stats and tell me that Braylon Edwards is a big contributor to wins. Really he's not. The 2007 guy, yeah he'd maybe win a game for you over the course of the season, but this guy isn't going to.

WR, like CB, is just not that influential a position in terms of wins. There aren't a lot of wins in touching the ball 6 times a game and maybe impacting a dozen plays.

Yeah, he's not a great receiver but he's going to do the same thing that Edwards essentially does, which is to take a guy deep and make the rest of the team play 10-on-10. He will likely even catch a deep ball now and then to reinforce the threat. One of the things that's interesting to watch about Edwards is how rarely he's double-covered down the field. Teams just aren't that scared of him and they tend to single cover him and roll the safety the other way. And they don't have Darrelle Revis out there causing that decision, the Jets have Braylon Edwards out there causing the decision.

    Try this:

    RIF: Reading is Fundamental
    1255 23rd Street, NW,
    Washington, DC 20037

The article out a week or so ago explained that Sanchez did not have the wherewithal to notice that edwards was not set when he snapped the ball.....

EDIT: I may be too lazy to go find the articles but I do take the time to read a good majority of the "Clippings" on the Jets' website. I would say my recall is pretty good.

Which is why the Giants suspended Kareem for for his DUI and Pierce was suspended multiple games for obstructing justice and why Jacobs will be punished for throwing his helmet into the stands neraly hurting people 10 rows deep.....oh wait.

His amount of touches only has so much to do with the chance of winning the game, his forcing the secondary to play deeper helps the running game.

    You know this.

No he will not. Maybe for the first pass play in his direction. After the phins realize he is in there as a decoy other than a few plays, our ability to spread out their defense goes out the window.
