Good point. And thanks to WSW. The stats and info he compiled make clear that those who did not scream up and down for those players to be suspended are merly doing what Calgary says. That raises an interesting point - I personally don't care what bloviating gasbags say on tv. I don't care that fans of other teams are hypocrites when it comes to the Jets compared to their players. In fact we should relish the hatred coming from those two sources. But what about those who claim to be Jet fans and join in the bashing of the team and Edwards? Let's be clear - saying "I might wish to suspend Edwards, but even knowing the CBA issue, I think the FO sucks for not suspending Edwards" are really joining in with the team's enemies, giving aid and comfort to them. Let me be clear - it's one thing to say what you would have done, but the team has put out a plausible explanation for not suspending Edwards. On top of that the team is facing hated Miami these week. The notion that the Jets, unlike everyone else, including Miami, should go into that game with one hand tied behind the team's back, tied there at their own decision, is to me hateful. To make a point that is highly debatable at best. Please. So it's one thing to say what you would have done, but another to criticize the Jets after they put out their explanation. In short, those who do the latter are not really Jet fans. That's right - the CBA and playing Miami should be enough for you clowns. And clowns are not Jet fans. They are merely clowns.
Remember when Randy Moss was that guy? Now his interviews are wacky and everybody still loves him. There is no other Randy Moss on the field and there will never be again. Braylon needs to step up and play big for us this year and everyone will forget this ever happened. Everyone except maybe Abdul.. From ESPN.com in 2002 Moss reportedly bumped officer with his car -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Associated Press MINNEAPOLIS -- Minnesota Vikings receiver Randy Moss was arrested Tuesday after being accused of bumping a police traffic officer with his car. Moss' car also was impounded, police spokeswoman Cyndi Barrington said, without disclosing further details. WCCO-TV reported Moss bumped the officer with his car in downtown Minneapolis, ignoring her signals to stop. The officer was not seriously hurt, the station reported. Moss has been in trouble before on and off the field since he was drafted in 1998. He squirted a referee with a water bottle in 1999, and abused corporate sponsors on the team bus in 2001. The Vikings are off to an 0-3 start, their worst since 1967, and Moss caught just four passes for 16 yards in Sunday's loss to Carolina.
Sometime you have to help someone elses kid because their parents are too stupid to teach them.....guessed you never coach a youth program
"but as a father I want him gone." I was responding to what you said. You did not refer to any youth program. You are changing the subject. I addressed your point. Either respond to it or STFU.
I agree assuming a league rule would give the Jets the roster spot protection they need in this situation. I am not sure but if the other poster is right they would have to dress him and not play him costing them a roster spot. Then the Jets hands are tied this week and next. If this happend after Holmes got off his suspension the penalty would probably be different. What sucks is the Fatsessa's of the world feel that although no other team suspends their players for this type of thing that the Jets should. I wonder if Plax did not injury himself and just got busted with the gun if Fatty's beloved Giants would have sat him? My guess is not and that Fatty would have not said a word about it.
That's my whole point. The Jets are being crucified for not doing something NO OTHER TEAM would do. Where was all the outrage for the Colts player starting the first two weeks for his September 3rd DUI?
If you also look at the past ten years the Jets have only 8 player incidents of this nature while the last 3 super bowls winners have 18 each. I think the Jets have earned more leeway on how to handle it because they have shown that they are doing things the right way in helping their players avoid this stuff.
Bolded for truth. As I said in another thread, the only problem I have with the way this was handled is that Edwards had to come out and say "Oh, if they want to deactivate me, I won't fight it." Braylon, please keep your mouth shut and let the team skate so you can catch balls and fry dem fish.
There was no outrage because it was the Colts. I get why people WERE harping on the Jets as the easy target when this first came out. I originally said a suspension against Buffalo would make sense, but only from a PR standpoint. Once the CBA info came out, I was relieved. It gave the Jets a great way to save face. I don't understand any argument in favor of benching him AFTER that came to light. It makes no sense.
You have to put everything in the appropriate context to understand why I want Edwards to face immediate punishment for this. The Jets are an undisciplined team right now, taking too many penalties which have already likely cost them a game in the standings. Edwards has been a prime offender in the undisciplined penalty category. The Jets have managed to look very much like a team that isn't fully focused on winning right now, with the Inez Sainz episode at practice being a teamwide example. Edwards DUI arrest at 5:15am fits into this category as a primary offender. The fact that he was enabling other teammates to do this also (they were in his ride) is additional evidence that he's not fully focused on winning at the moment. Both of the things above have occurred in the context of Edwards being a free agent in 2011 and in theory on his best behavior to maximise his chances of getting a good contract. His behavior at this point is clearly self-destructive if looked at in context. And of course there's the history of Edwards already having gotten in trouble with the law once for being out clubbing and also being out of control. He's already under the jurisdiction of a court for what was essentially bad judgement that turned into criminality. The Jets may not have had a legal recourse to suspend him for the DUI. The CBA has provisions designed to protect players against one bad decision, as long as the consequences of that decision were not too harsh. The problem is that this is not one bad decision and the things the Jets might like to suspend Edwards for, like maintaining team discipline in the face of some very shaky behavior/play, aren't wholly related to that one decision anyway. Edwards is a primary example of what's wrong with the Jets so far this year. He's been sloppy on the field and has lost track of the consequences of his off the field actions to the team's chances. He's the guy the Jets need to make an example of to get everybody refocused, and he put the target on his own back with the DUI.
I'm surprised you feel this way. I get the whole discipline angle you're taking, but you completely ignore how badly that hurts the team. If it were week 5 and Santonio were back it would make much more sense. You seriously want the Jets to go into the game with 2 healthy NFL receivers (Cotchery & Clowny (questionable if he's NFL receiver quality)), a banged up Brad Smith, and a practice squad receiver? Not only that but you want them to sit on a roster spot for the game? All so they can "send a message" to a guy who almost certainly won't be a Jet next year? That's against a 2-0 divisional rival on the road who appears to have a very good defense. You also need to consider the young, developing QB who is gaining confidence.
I understand that the Jets organization needs to make players accountable for their actions. However, this is a divisional game that may very well set the stage for our run to playoffs. Holding Edwards accountable by sitting him for this game hurts the team's chances of winning the game and therefore hurts the team as a whole, not just Edwards.
I don't even look it from the game standpoint I look at it from the standpoint that if I got arrested and charged with a DWI would my work suspend me from my duties? Possibly if it's in my contract but not likely. People want to rip the Jets for not suspending Edwards but how many of us would face a penalty from our employers if we did the same thing? Fatcessa clearly has an ax to grind and guys like Shefter get it. WSW is right, why no mention of old Fifi? Is it because he plays with Manning and the Colts are a "class" organization built by Tony Dungy?
According to your list, I guess when you are a NFL player, you are above the Law ! And you approve of DWI ? Maybe when a drunk driver kills one of your family or friends you may think different! Bench the Asshole Edwards ! He broke the Law! He thought of himself, and not the Team ! The Jets need ALL the players to be there, at 100% to reach the Goal to get to the Super Bowl ! I was involved in a multiple car accident from some asshole drinking hit my friends car from behind doing 85 mph! My friend died in my arms with his blood all over me. Of 4 cars involved , my car was in the middle, after my friends car was hit. My car was wrecked ! My friend left behind 3 children and a wife, he was burried on his 10th wedding anniversary ! The guy that killed him, is rotting in jail for 25 years! STUPID reckless behavior- DWI ! Kill someone or not, should be sent to jail! Sorry, this is a bad topic for me, DWI pisses me off !
I could better understand these points last week, but after the Jets put up perhaps their best performance from the drive to end the first half through the game's end against NE since probably the Monday night miracle game, to say they are not focused on winning is ridiculous. It may be the most ridiculous thing you have ever said. It is also debatable that the Jets lost the Ravens game because of penalties. What about Greene's fumbles and drop, the offense not clicking and MS checking down, and that sort of inefficient play on both sides of the ball? Penalties were only one factor. It is over the top to say the only reason the Jets lost to the Ravens is penalties. But even were it true, how would suspending Edwards assure that penalties will appreciably decline? Better to focus on on field problems, I think. THe connection is more direct.
Where did I ever argue I approve of DWI? You're mixing two separate issues. The question is, why should the Jets put themselves at a competitive disadvantage that other teams do not. Braylon did not kill anyone or drive recklessly. He was pulled over because his tint was too dark.
