I was against it and disappointed to see it on my computer screen when I woke up this morning (crashed early last night, before the news broke). That said, I've had a few hours to come to grips with it and I'm over it. The deal is done and I'm JETS fan, so I'm rooting for him to have the greatest year in NFL history! Always the optimist...
27 other teams aren't going though a QB quandary like the teams interested in Favre are. Please stop excluding the Vikings and the Bears, thats just ignorant. The only other teams I could have seen showing interest in Favre are the Ravens and MAYBE Kansas City, teams who are rebuilding from the ground up and would be idiotic for those teams to even consider, yet Brett even considering. Teams that showed interest in Favre, are teams that have ZERO dedication and reliability at the QB position. Still haven't made it past #1... kinda got a glance at the second and just snickered because thats just as bad.
Ive been against the trade. I always thought that behind a good line Chad could win. An almost 39 year old Brett Farve has not taken part in an off-season camp/program, needs to get to know a new team/recievers and playbook and does not have the same arm he once had. So I will put myself down as against the trade. Now that he is here, I will put my full support behind Brett and the Jets. Just as I would Chad or Kellen. But again, I was against the trade.
I'll sign. I'm 100% behind this deal. We didn't give up much and via early camp reports, Clemens is not developing much. 2 more years behind Favre, a QB who he's actually been compared to skillset-wise (obviously, there's a huge talent gap) should do him a lot of good. Ainge can learn a lot too and in a few years time, I think he might even be the better option (I loved Ainge out of school and loved the pick).
I'm in favor. While I am far from confident that Favre will work out for us, the trade was a risk worth taking with very little downside.
fact is the jets are better today than they were yesterday at the QB position. if it doesn' t work out we will select a QB with the 30th overall pick next year
I was against the trade for many reasons. I, however, am excited to see what we can do. On a side note: Where are you guys getting this 1st rounder escalation clause from? I just read on ESPN that it's: 4th 3rd if he plays 50% of the snaps 2ns if he plays 70% of the snaps and we make the playoffs
I love the way you open up this thread by saying "When the Jets fail to reach the Super Bowl this year, and they will"...thats a champonian statement. (I think you know who I mean by champonian). Its like "so Im going to be right and you will all be wrong". Like the Jets were going to go to the superbowl with Chad or Kc. Come on...thats childish no? I have no problem going on record saying I like this deal. Will you go on record saying that our offense has been one of the most predictable pieces of garbage over the last couple years? Will you go on record and admit that teams preparing to play the Jets might have to say to their safetys "ok boys...you cant play 3 yards off the ball anymore". Were you willing to pay for the increased medical insurance the team has to spend on all of their receivers? Would you go deep without a will when Chad is playing qb? What exactly is bothering you other then the hatred you have for the guy. That KC's development will be hindered? KC has shown you so much that after bringing is some good talent in the offseason, he was the guy you wanted? Will the Jets win the superbowl? Doubt it..so you can go after me right now instead of throwing up this circus thread in January 09. You are a liar if you think they dont have a better shot then they did yesterday at this time...a liar.
Why are the Packers included in your list of 3 teams that were interested? Wasn't their zero interest in Farve the reason that started this whole thing? haha i'm sure he thought there were only 30 teams. i'm just busting his chops for creating one of many stupid arguments to turn this day upside down.
For ++++++ He upgrades the last postion we needed to make a serious run. Worse case, he doesn't take us to the promised land. So what! We were not getting there with tweedle dee and tweedle dumb either. At least we can look forward to a season of exciting offensive football. And as a bonus, it ends the Pennington era! It is all good!
The guys who were NOT in favour of the Favre trade (such as yourself for example) obviously embrace "losing"....and should have to suffer a "public stoning" for their stupidity.
And we lose 31st pick in the draft at WORST, if we make it to the superbowl. How can we not be for something like this if he sticks around for a couple years.
Let's talk about the other teams that could have gone after Favre. Now remember, Favre is being presented as a QB that instantly gives a team a shot at the SB. Buffalo - aren't they as "win now" as the Jets? Edwards and Losman over the great Favre? The Bills have as much a reason to take him as the Jets. Give Favre two years and let Edwards learn from him Miami - Who is the QB there anyway? Favre would be an excellent hold the fort guy who takes a 3-4 win to 6-7 while the young QBs "learn from the master" just like Clemens would. Baltimore - need a QB. Boller stinks and Flacco isn't ready. Favre makes them a potential playoff team with a defense that is still good. Jacksonville - this is an interesting one. This is a team that could win it all. While Garrard had a good year, wouldn't Favre put them over the top? Garrard has been in the league 6 years and nobody heard of him until last year. Is Garrard better than the "great and all powerful" Favre???? In a win now league, doesn't Favre give the Jags a better shot at a SB?? Houston - Favre has to be considered better than Schaub and Rosenfels, doesn't he??? Oakland - Wouldn't Favre have been the perfect renegade for this franchise that still loves the downfield passing game. Two years of Favre to tutor Russell . As many have said, what would be the downside for Oakland - Russell is not going anywhere? KC - do I even have to mention why? They might have the worst QB situation in the NFL. Croyle can sit for two years as much as Clemens Washington - Isn't Snyder always in a "win now" mode??? Isn't Favre better than Campbell? If he isn't, many on this board are mistaken about Favre's abilities. GB - why didn't the Pack want him back. Still the biggest ? in this whole affair. Minn- nuff said Chi - nuff said Det - should clearly have been interested with that group of receivers and journeyman and interception machine Kitna at QB Carolina - This is also a team that could take off. Wouldn't Favre be a better option to win now that a post-surgical Delhomme (we all know how the post arm surgery QBs work out). TB- they were interested, even though they already had a 38 year old who led them back to the playoffs and more back up QBs than any team in the league Atl - Again - two years to tutor Ryan. Why not any interest? Arizona - with that stable of receivers, he is better than Warner and Leinhart can sit for two years as easily as any other QB from last year's draft. That makes 17 teams - more than half the league - that should have been "interested" but only four were. Why??? Do the Jets know something that 28 other franchises don't?
I was against the trade, and still am, but I'll still cheer him on like I would anyone playing QB for the Jets. He's a great player don't get me wrong, I'm just not a big fan of his. I just don't like players that think they're bigger than the team.
