I still don't want to be sitting at 2-4. That gives very little room for error. We have to be 3-3 IMO. Then we have a real good shot.
Revis has the decision to press or not most of the time. Bowles answered a direct question on it in a presser this week.
easy to see why you got the 2008 least knowledgeable award...on track for the 2016 version as well.......
Not so fast, cbman. Have you forgotten the ineptness of the offense in the red zone just this past Sunday? Have you forgotten Fitz' choke job in the last game of last season with the playoffs on the line and his history of maddeningly inconsistent play? I understand that you're excited after last night. It was improbable, imo, but it happened and was exciting to witness. We aren't used to that. Yes, last night was very encouraging, although I'm still in shock. There's reason for hope that the offense will be better, but don't forget, we're still playing tougher defenses this year than last year, and it's still early. There's a lot of football left to be played. Let's see if the offense can develop some consistency before anointing them as the unit that will carry this team.
It's a different game if the Jets don't allow those two long bombs. If that doesn't happen, I'm not convinced the Jets would have stayed aggressive and kept throwing the ball. Gailey and Bowles could have gone very conservative and started running the ball 3 out of every 4 plays. It was definitely pleasing to see and encouraging. Now let's see if they can keep it up. Let's also see if Bowles allows or directs them to stay aggressive in games like last night, or if gets as passive on offense as he does on defense.
I know exactly what you are saying, I really panic everytime we get more than one score ahead because history suggests that we tighten up and go conservative. I do think the good performance of Fitz and the Jets in general definitely has to do with playing the Bills away much earlier in the season as I noted in a previous thread. No inclement weather to deal with and wind helping with the lames ducks.
I don't get why people are trashing our pass rush last night. The rushers were clearly trying to stick in their lanes so they could force Taylor to throw it which worked extremely well besides 2 deep balls, one of which the rushers broke their lanes and Taylor scrambled out of the pocket so he coverage was broken.
It was truly painful to watch Revis get burned so bad like that against some scrub receiver. 2009 Revis and that stick figure receiver doesn't even get off the line of scrimmage. Buffalo deserves credit. All the talk was how Revis is struggling with speed so they put him out wide with a freakin olympic track sprinter. They tried the same thing later and Revis did a better job- it should've been an INT actually. But then again Revis was giving him like 15 yards of cushion on that one and any decent receiver would've stopped and grabbed a first down. -- They gotta figure something out with Revis and quick. Maybe more zone? idk. Maybe they just need to get in his face and tell him to stop being a pussy and get back to bumping receivers at the line-- that may have been what the training camp fight between Marshall and Revis was all about
I didn't mean to say we were or are balanced...but it's something to strive for. We certainly have the personnel to be effective on both sides of the ball. Disagree?
well if they can put together 4-5 games like last night i would say this current offense is up there with the 1998 version.....hell this even matches the late 2002 version with young pennington which was great to watch and could score points almost at will.
I'm not sold we have the personnel on both sides of the ball. The defense is suspect. We got picked apart by a statue pocket passer in game 1 and couldn't get real pressure on a mobile passer in week two who is a pretty inept QB when he is playing everyone but us. Good offense having to pick up the slack for a suspect defense isn't balanced.
It was funny how he'd be pretty decent in the preseason only to become an afterthought until somebody got hurt. Seems like he's in a similar position up in Buffalo right now. I hope he does well this season with the except of the next game against us.
jetblue they have a very different story of that game in Buffalo. Taylor is taking a lot of heat for sucking last night. I'd say he was pretty inept outside of 2 passes last night
Looking at the big plays the D gave up yesterday a little more closely -- Revis got burned by the fastest man in the NFL. Not much you can do about that, except be glad it only happened once. The Salas play is really about two young guys screwing up: J. Stanford #51 got antsy for a sack as he and other defenders were closing in on Taylor, he tried to move inside, when he should have stayed outside. This allowed Taylor to get outside the pocket for one of a very few times on the night. When Taylor left the pocket, several defenders, including Miles, decided Taylor was making a run for it and dropped their coverage assignments. Miles is probably getting too much of a bad wrap for this-- it was really Stanford that blew the play. True, Miles shouldn't have given up the TD, but at that point it looked like Taylor could have run it for about 30 yards. It's hard to see if the QB has passed the line of scrimmage or not from way down field. All of this would have been a non-issue if Stanford had stayed outside-- most likely the play would have resulted in a Taylor sack, as a couple of Jets were all over Taylor before he skirted through Stanford's assigned lane.
I was wondering how often the Jets manage to hit 37 points in a game. It seems to be about once per season. Over the past 10 years, they've only done it twice in one season (2010). This is a very complete offense. Wait until Powell gets involved more. Same goes for a returning Devin Smith, whenever that may be. Also, I'd like to maybe see Peake get some targets in the red zone as another tall threat. The fact that I can bring up name after name is quite pleasing. The fact that Bowles & Chan adjusted last night away from trying to force the shovel pass was comforting. We should be 2-0 if it wasn't for Folk and Revis against Cincy. But whatever.
